ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (Wed, Jan 30) — New Mexico police has recovered an
8-year-old mentally retarded and physically handicapped girl from a wooden cage,
according to report published in Huffington Post.
Cindy Patriarchias and Edmond Gonzales Charged with neglectfully causing child abuse |
According
to details; 33-year-old Cindy Patriarchias
locked the girl in a wooden cage while she left with her boyfriend Edmond
Gonzales to watch a movie. She
also took her three children with her leaving the girl unattended at home.
A police report said that Patriarchias' separated
husband called police when he arrived at the school and learned that the
8-year-old girl was unattended at the mobile home.
After about an hour of waiting for Patriarchias
and Gonzales police were able to enter the home and a shocking scene was waiting
for them. A small girl – suffering from suffers from microcephaly, a condition
that gives people an abnormally small head – was locked in a large
homemade wooden cage in the corner of a bedroom.
The cage had two latches on the door, a baby
crib's mattress inside and was about 2 1/2 feet wide and 4 feet tall, police
said in a statement.
Patriarchias has been charged with neglectfully
causing child abuse. Her boyfriend Gonzales, 37, was charged with neglectfully
permitting child abuse. Court records indicated that they appeared in court
Monday but didn't enter pleas.
The girl didn't appear to have any physical
injuries. She was placed under the care of New Mexico's child-protection
agency.
