High-ranked German Among 14 Killed in Kabul Cafe Attack Carried Out by Taliban

Foreigners are among the 14 killed as a result of suicide attack and heavy gunfire at a popular restaurant in the center of Kabul on Friday evening, local media reported.

Gunfire was heard for more than 20 minutes after the huge explosion, an eyewitness told BBC News.

According to details; a suicide bomber blew himself up at about 7:30 p.m. (local time) at the entrance of the Taverna du Liban restaurant, very popular among expats living in the capital city, followed by two armed men vivid shooting spree inside the restaurant. The Lebanese restaurant was full of diners, mostly foreigners, at the time of attack.

Taliban has claimed responsibility of the attack in the Wazir Akbar Khan district, where many embassies and restaurants are serving the foreigners, saying it had been deliberately targeting foreign officials.

Taliban claimed the responsibility through an email to reporters saying it had targeted “a foreign restaurant where foreign invaders were having dinner.” They further claimed that a high-ranked German official is killed in the attack; but the German foreign ministry said it could not confirm that Germans were involved.


The gunmen were killed by Afghan security forces, CNN reported. Gen. Zaher Zaher, the police chief, confirmed the death toll at 14.

Breaking News: School children among 17 killed as bus plunges into river in Maharashtra, India

Mumbai, India (Wed, Sep 26) - Breaking News: At least 17 people have been reported dead in a fatal road accident today morning in Buldhana district of Indian State of Maharashtra.

According to Indian media reports; bus fell into river from a bridge after getting out of control in Buldhana district.
 
School children are also among the dead, NDTV reported. The bodies of the driver and the helper, along with some of the children have been recovered.

Afghanistan: 4 NATO soldiers killed in "insider" attack, second such attack in less than 24 hours

KABUL, Afghanistan (Sun, Sep. 16) - Four NATO troops were killed by a suspected Afghan policeman on Sunday, the US-led military said, in the latest apparent attack involving Afghan security forces killing their Western allies.

The international alliance ISAF (International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) says in a statement that the attack happened in the wee hours today in Helmand province, one of the strongholds of the Taliban-led insurgency.
This is the second such attack in less than 24 hours after two British soldiers, from 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment, were killed in a similar “insider” shooting on Saturday.
Four ISAF "service members died today in southern Afghanistan following an insider attack suspected to involve members of the Afghan police", ISAF said in a statement.
According to Reuters; at least 51 foreign military personnel have been killed in "insider" attacks this year, attacks which have put a heavy strain on trust between the coalition and Afghanistan as they move towards handing security responsibility to Afghan forces by the end of 2014.

Breaking News: 22 NATO Truck Blown Away by Taliban in Northern Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan (Wed, Jul 18) – NATO forces in Afghanistan had a great shock today morning when 22 fuel tankers carrying supplies to coalition forces were blown up in northern Afghanistan.

According to details; a bomb planted by the Taliban exploded on Wednesday morning and destroyed the NATO convoy. 

At the time, the trucks were parked overnight in Samangan province, as they headed from Uzbekistan towards NATO forces in the south.

According to BBC; the fire caused by the bomb is still burning.

The explosive device was attached below one of the trucks, which were parked close together, an intelligence official said. 

"Since it was early in the morning, there were not a lot of people around. Otherwise, it could have caused a lot more casualties,'' the official told the BBC.

State TV confirms that Assad's brother-in-law and top military official Assef Shawkat was pronounced dead in hospital where he was rushed in a very critical condition. 

According to details; a suicide bomber struck the National Security building in the Syrian capital Wednesday in which he targeted a meeting of Assad's top security and military officials on Hezbollah's al-Manar television and a security source in Syria said.

Breaking News!! MI-17 Helicopter Crash Killed Five On Board Near Skardu Airport

SKARDU, Pakistan (Wed, Jul 11) – At least five people were killed in a military helicopter crash near Skardu Airport around 15:00 (PST) on Wednesday, Inter-Services Public Relation (ISPR) said today.

According to details, the helicopter was an MI-17 of the Pakistan Army Aviation and was on its test flight with five on board including pilot and co-pilot. The helicopter was returning from Gayari sector (Siachen) when it crashed due to a technical fault.

The helicopter was completely damaged in the crash.

The initial reports suggest, the pilot of the chopper was trying to land the helicopter at the nearest airbase, but it crashed after catching fire.

Breaking!!! Saudi deputy consul, Abdullah al-Khalidi, kidnapped in Southern Yemeni city of Aden

ADEN, Yemen (Wed, Mar. 28) – According to a Yemeni security official; unidentified gunmen abducted Saudi Arabia's deputy consul from outside his home in the southern Yemeni port city of Aden on Wednesday.

The gunmen kidnapped Abdullah al-Khalidi as he was about to get into his car and escaped from the scene immediately taking Khalidi in another vehicle, police sources of Mansoura district revealed.

Police and other law enforcement agencies are carrying on a search operation in the city in an effort to locate and release Mr. Khalidi.

Aden is the city neighboring to Yemen's Abyan province where regime forces have been struggling to hold militant groups associated allegedly with Al-Qaeda.

Breaking News!!! Indian Air Force's (IAF) Mirage-2000 Crashed in Rajasthan

JAIPUR, India (Mon, Mar 5) – A fighter jet of Indian Air Force (IAF) reportedly crashed on Monday morning in Rajasthan province, according to Indian media reports.

As per the available details; a French-made two-seater trainer aircraft Mirage-2000 crashed in Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, while being on a training mission.

According to IAF media spokesperson; there were a pilot and a co-pilot in the jet at the time of crash but both of them managed to eject safely in time. "The crash occurred around 12.45 p.m. The pilot ejected to safety," the spokesperson said.

This is the second such incident during last 10 days in which Mirage-2000 involved in crash. Earlier on February 24, a trainer version of the jet had crashed in Madhya Pradesh but both pilots, one of whom was an air marshal, had managed to eject in time.
