Oscar Pistorius granted freedom to travel by South African court

Breaking News: Oscar Pistorius has reportedly won his appeal over bail restrictions in connection with traveling aborad and his passport is returned back to him by court.

South African media reported that the appeal of Oscar Pistorius, accused of killing her model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, against his bail conditions is successful and Pistorius cleared to compete internationally by South African court.

It was earlier reported that the lawyers for Oscar Pistorius have appealed against some of his bail restrictions on Thursday, saying the “blade Runner” might ultimately need to return to track competition to earn money. Pistorius’ lawyers argue that he should be permitted to leave the country with written permission.

They also say that forcing him to report regularly to a police station and a ban on him consuming alcohol, among other conditions, are "unwarranted".

According to further details, a South African court’s judge today cleared the athlete for international travel, easing stringent bail conditions imposed on him for killing his girlfriend on Valentine’s Day.

“I find that the magistrate’s decision not to grant the appellant his passport to travel abroad was wrong,” Judge Bert Bam told the High Court in Pretoria.

He will also be allowed to return to his home in Pretoria, where Reeva Steenkamp was shot and killed.
He denies murdering the 29-year-old, saying he mistook her for an intruder.
In the hearing at Pretoria's High Court, Mr Pistorius also sought an end to supervision by a probation officer and compulsory drug and alcohol testing.
