Shocking Video: Massive earthquake in Aceh Province, Indonesia -- Tsunami warning in 28 countries

JAKARTA, Indonesia (Wed, Apr 11) – An earthquake of 8.9 on Richter scale has struck Indonesia. Indonesian authorities issued a tsunami warning after a major earthquake hit waters off northern Aceh province.

The effects of earthquake were also felt in Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Patna, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Cuttack, Bhubaneshwar and several other cities on the eastern coast of India.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said Wednesday the 8.9-magnitude earthquake’s epicenter was 20 miles under the ocean base around 308 miles from the provincial capital of Banda Aceh.

Indonesia's Meteorology and Geophysics Agency issued a tsunami warning following the severe tremors.

BBC reported that the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) said it was not yet known whether a tsunami had been generated, but advised authorities to "take appropriate action".
