England won the toss and batting first in must-win game against South Africa

CHENNAI – South Africa to take on England in a Group B match; big match for England at Chennai today. A must-win tie for England to qualify for quarter-finals. 

England have won the toss and elected to bat first with Ravi Bopara replacing veteran Paul Collingwood; while South Africa will come out with the same combination as in the last match.

World Cup (March 05) - Australia v Sri Lanka (Updates): Rain Disappointed Cricket Fans

COLOMBO – One of the most important and much-awaited match between co-host Sri Lanka and defending champions Australia was destroyed by heavy rain today at R. Premadasa Stadium at Colombo.

Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first; but the openers Upul Tharanga and Tillakaratne DilshanTillakaratne Dilshan perished early in the innings. 'Demonstrations will not be tolerated at all': Saudi Interior Ministry

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – After a small protest in eastern region of Saudi Arabia; a statement came from Interior Ministry that ‘demonstrations will not be tolerated’. Reportedly, the about 100 people from Shiite minority tried to stage a demonstration in the town of al-Hufouf. 

The Saudi Interior Ministry, in an announcement Saturday, said the kingdom prohibits all protests because they oppose Islamic laws and society's values.

The ministry said some people have tried to go around the law to "achieve illegitimate aims," and it warned that security forces were authorized to act against violators.

In the subjected demonstrations which came after Friday prayers; the Shiites were demanding the release of arrested members of the community which includes Shiite cleric who was detained last week for calling for a constitutional realm.

Sri Lanka Couldn't Resume The Innings Due to Rain

COLOMBO – Match is still halted by the rain. It’s now a bit light but it rained too much in this one hour or so. According to last live shots all the ground is still under covers and the ground staff is having some fun over there; practicing hooking, pulling and Michael Jackson’s famous ‘moon walk’, yes they are having fun.

Bollywood Dream Girl Hema Malini Won Rajya Sabha by-election from Karnataka

BANGALORE – Once Bollywood ‘Dream Girl’ Hema Malini register her political victory in Rajya Sabha by-election from Karnataka on Thursday. 

The actress cum politician, supported by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), actually out-numbered her opponent rival K. Marulasiddappa, an independent candidate supported by central ruling Congress party and Janata Dal (Secular).  

However, Hema Malini will have only a one-year term, ending on April 2, 2012. She has enjoyed a full six-year term between 2003 and 2009 in the Rajya Sabha.

Washington Concerned About Raymond Davis' Safety: US State Department Spokesperson P J Crowley

WASHINGTON - The US State Department has reiterated its concerns over the safety of Raymond Davis and asked Pakistan to keep proper security due to multiple death threats received by US national.

P J Crowley, spokesperson of US State department, was speaking in news conference last evening said, “We are quite aware that he had received multiple death threats. We are concerned about his security, as we would be for any government official or prominent individual subject to those death threats.”

He further added that they would encourage Pakistan Government to do every possible effort to ensure the security of Raymond Davis and Washington will continue working with Islamabad to resolve the issue at the earliest possible time. 

Raymond Davis, the 37-year-old CIA contractor, is presently under police remand in Koth Lakhpat jail in Lahore and going through trial for killing two Pakistanis he claimed were trying to rob him.

However, Pakistani police has declined his claim that he shot them dead in his self defence and charged him with murder.

Pakistan has rejected repeated US demands to free Davis who, according to US Authorities claims, holds diplomatic immunity. Islamabad has said the issue will be settled by the Pakistani courts.

Long-march against 5-day gas closure postponed after CM meeting

FAISALABAD – After a meeting with Chief Minister Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif, Faisalabad-based industrialists and mill owners have decided to defer the long-march which was originally called for 5th March against five-day gas closure for industrial units. 



A 25-member group of industrialists and representatives of organizations operating for benefit of workers of textile and other industries of Faisalabad visited Shahbaz Sharif at CM Secretariat on Friday.

Shahbaz Sharif pledged the delegation, during the meeting that Punjab provincial government led by Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) would leave no stone unturned to resolve their issues.

“I was personally keen to resolve the problems faced by industrialist and workers as soon as possible” the Chief Minister assured the delegation.

Earlier, industrialists and workers of Faisalabad had announced to hold province wide long-march on March 5(Saturday) against 5-day gas closure and for other problems faced by industrial units.
