Afghanistan: 4 NATO soldiers killed in "insider" attack, second such attack in less than 24 hours

The international alliance ISAF (International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) says in a statement that the attack happened in the wee hours today in Helmand province, one of the strongholds of the Taliban-led insurgency.
This is the second such attack in less than 24 hours after two British soldiers, from 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment, were killed in a similar “insider” shooting on Saturday.
Four ISAF "service members died today in southern Afghanistan following an insider attack suspected to involve members of the Afghan police", ISAF said in a statement.
According to Reuters; at least 51 foreign military personnel have been killed in "insider" attacks this year, attacks which have put a heavy strain on trust between the coalition and Afghanistan as they move towards handing security responsibility to Afghan forces by the end of 2014.

17 Pakistani soldiers beheaded by Taliban, video released

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (Wed, Jun 27) – A video has been released today by Taliban militants showing the 17 beheaded Pakistani soldiers, who were reportedly killed during an attack on Pakistan check post on Sunday in Upper Dir area.

17 Pakistani soldiers beheaded by Taliban, video released

A senior security official told media on Wednesday that a total of 17 soldiers were targeted by the militants who attacked from the eastern Afghan province of Kunar.

“Six troops were killed on the first day, and then another seven were slaughtered the next day,” the official said.

“Four were missing and now they have also been beheaded,” he said.

The footage made by the Taliban’s media wing shows 17 detached heads of soldiers placed on a white sheet while men in masks stood in the background armed with assault rifles captured from the soldiers.

Local security officials confirmed that all the victims were Pakistani soldiers.

“God has given us a great victory, we have killed them all. Four of the  heads you can see are from Frontier Corps (paramilitary force), the rest are  from the army,” an unseen commentator said in the video.

The army said more than 100 militants “from a safe haven across the border”  attacked troops on patrol. It claimed to have killed 14 militants.

The army “has strongly protested with their counterparts across the border  for not taking action against miscreants present in safe havens in  Afghanistan”, a military official said.

The foreign ministry summoned the deputy head of the Afghan mission to  lodge a formal protest against “the intrusion of militants from the Afghan side  into Pakistani territory”, officials said.

The Afghan diplomat was informed that “the government of Afghanistan should  take appropriate measures to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents in the  future”, it said.

Pakistani troops have for years been fighting local Taliban but have  resisted US pressure to carry out a sweeping offensive against Afghan Taliban  fighters in its North Waziristan tribal area.

Afghanistan and Pakistan have long blamed each other for Taliban violence  plaguing both sides of their porous, mountainous border.

Pakistan says rebels have regrouped in eastern Afghanistan. Afghan and US  officials want Pakistan to eliminate Taliban and Al-Qaeda-linked havens used to  launch attacks in Afghanistan.

U.S. soldier's Rampage in Afghanistan: Security Heightened as Taliban Vow Revenge

KABUL, Afghanistan (Mon, Mar. 12) – The Afghan Taliban have threatened to take revenge on Monday in response to brutal killing of Afghans by a U.S. troop on Sunday night and burning the bodies subsequently.

U.S. soldier's Rampage in Afghanistan: Security Heightened as Taliban Vow Revenge
The tragic incident would certainly fuel the fire of anger which wasn’t still extinguished even after the written apologize by U.S. President Barack Obama after U.S. troops burnt the Holy Quran in February this year.

Security around the military bases across Afghanistan has been tightened following the threats of retaliations from Taliban after the shooting spree in the villages of Alkozai and Najeeban of Kandahar province. At least 16 civilians were killed, including women and children, in this insane shooting by U.S. troop who later on surrendered to the U.S. military authorities but his name has kept secret until now.

The U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan has also cautioned the American citizens to be careful due to the possibility of reactions of Kandahar incident.

The Taliban said in a statement on their website that "sick-minded American savages" committed the "blood-soaked and inhumane crime" in two villages in Panjwai district, a rural region outside Kandahar that is the stronghold of the Taliban and where U.S.-led coalition forces have fought for control for years.

The Taliban promised the families of the victims that it would take revenge "for every single martyr with the help of Allah."

Breaking!! Two More U.S. Soldiers Killed in Kandahar (Afghanistan) Thursday

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (Fri, Mar. 02) – The wave of retaliation and rebellion against the burning of Holy Quran, at the main US airbase at Bagram in Afghanistan, has claimed two more lives of U.S. soldiers Thursday.

The incident took place approximately 2:30 a.m. local time at a joint Afghan-NATO base in Kandahar province in southern Afghanistan, near the village of Sangsar. The recent incident is third of its kind in the last ten days.

According to New York Times reports; an Afghan soldier and a civilian Afghan literacy teacher opened fire on U.S. soldiers resulting in the death of two of them while four other were injured. Both Afghan men escaped from the scene after firing but were killed on their way after being chased by military helicopters.

The recent incident took place only hours after President Barack Obama declared that his written apology to Afghan President Hamid Karzai following the incident of burning of Holy Quran had helped “calm things down” in Afghanistan.

9 killed, 12 injured in car bomb blast near ISAF base in Jalalabad, Afganistan

KABUL, Afghanistan (Mon, Feb 28) – A suicide attack near a NATO-led ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) base claimed at least nine lives and left more than a dozen injured on early hours of Monday.

9 killed, 12 injured in car bomb blast near ISAF base in Jalalabad, Afganistan

According to details; a suicide bomber blew up an explosive-laden vehicle near the Jalalabad airport's front gate, an attack that follows a week of deadly violence prompted by the burning of scripts of Holy Quran at a U.S. base. But it is yet to be established that the recent attack was a result of motivation against the burning of Holy Quran.

An ISAF spokesperson, Air Force Capt. Justin Brockhoff, confirmed that there were no fatalities related to ISAF.

U.S. President Barack Obama and other officials have apologized for the burning and called it unintended; but such statements, or explanations, haven't stopped protests from Muslims in Afghanistan.

CNN reports citing an anonymous military source in Afghanistan that said the Quranic scripts  were from a detainee center's library and had "inscriptions" that believed to be used to "facilitate extremist communications."
