Deadly Bus Crash in Brazil: At least 10 killed, 42 injured

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (Mon, Jul 16) – At least 10 people died and 42 injured when a passenger bus crashed in the southern Brazil state of Parana, according to state’s police spokesperson.

According to details; there were total 50 passengers and two drivers were on board when the bus got out of control before hit a truck coming from the opposite direction in the next lane. The exact cause of the mishap is still to be established after thorough investigations.

The bus was reportedly traveling with two other buses to a conference of the Brazilian Computer Association at the Federal University of Parana, scheduled to start Monday morning.

The identities of the perished passengers have not been disclosed by police until the last reports.

Watch Video: Brazilian Police Officers Chase Smugglers' Plane and Smash Car into it

Two police officers in Brazil used a film-like stunt to stop smugglers’ plane taking off with a lot of illegal electronics.

Video shows that one police officer hanging almost out of the car window with a high-caliber rifle as they chase the criminals’ plane. In the mean time, second police officer, who’s driving the car, shouts: "Don't shoot! I am going to hit the wing!"

Moments later the car smashes into the single-engine aircraft. The two lionhearted policemen then jump out and surround the plane.

Edson Geraldo de Souza, federal police spokesperson, told G1 news the pilot and four criminals on the ground were detained in the incident on Tuesday.

He also said nobody was hurt.

Specially Katy Perry when, during her performance, she pulled out one lucky guy from the audience and planted a giant kiss on his cheek! The shirtless guy will probably remember this night forever, and never wash his face again.

SAO PAULO, Brazil – Miss Angola crowned Miss Universe 2011 Monday after astounding a panel of judges with her beauty and making an impact on them with her brain. The 25-year-old Leila Lopes, a business student from the town of Benguela in her home country, left behind 88 competitors.

Leila Lopes is not only Angola’s first winner but she also becomes one of few black women ever to snag the crown. In a brunette-dominated field of flat-stomached, leggy contestants, Lopes’ sweet smile and hairstyle (up in topknot, not long cascading curls) set her apart from the start.

In the beginning of the contest, Lopes had been asked by one of the judges what she might change about her physical features if she could, but Lopes said she was satisfied with who she was.

“I consider myself a woman endowed with inner beauty,” she told the judges and the audience. “I have acquired many wonderful principles from my family, and I plan to follow those through the rest of my life.”

10 Killed by Landslides Caused by Heavy Rains in Igrejinha and Novo Harmburgo, Southern Brazil

Rio de Janerio, Brazil – At least ten people reportedly died as a result of heavy rain that struck southern Brazil state of Rio Grande do Sul.  

As per further details; 8 were killed in mud slides that surrounded homes in the towns of Igrejinha and Novo Harmburgo, including three children aged nine, 11 and 13, who were sleeping when a tide of mud hit their home.

In the other incidents, a farmer was also died as a result of collapse of a building and another person was electrocuted as electricity supply lines came down in Sepucaia do Sul.

As per reports; there are two more missing from the town of Igrejinha and rescue teams are not only working to locate those missing but also helping people evacuate from those areas which are still prone to risk of land and mud slides.

The weather latest reports suggest more rain, high winds and even hail, which could obstruct rescue efforts.

Six Children from Same Family Downed as Boat Overturned in a Brazilian Lake

SAO PAULO, Brazil – In a gloomy incident in Brazil six children from one family were drowned to death in a lake while the family was travelling to nearby town on a small boat. 

Reportedly, there were total 13 members of a family were travelling on a boat when it overturned and six children, including two girls, were drowned while 7 others were survived that included 2 children also. 

Police sources confirmed that four boys and two girls drowned in Friday's accident near the town of Lago Verde in northeastern Brazil. They ranged in age from 2 to 12. Heavy rains have created rough waters in the area's lakes and rivers that may caused the accident.

Racist Abuse Hit Friendly Football Match Between Brazil and Scotland in London

LONDON – In an international friendly tie between Brazil and Scotland in London; Brazil striker Neymar was racially abused by the crowd on Sunday.

Neymar, talking to Brazilian television channel Sportv, told that he was abused while he was going to take a penalty in 77^th minute of the match. In Brazil’s 2-0 victory against Scotland, Neymar scored both the goals.  

The Sportv reported further that a banana was thrown at Neymar toward the end of the second half from a segment of the Emirates Stadium crowd mostly occupied by Brazil fans.

Brazil Announced $500,000 Donation for Disaster-hit Japan

Rio de Janeiro, March 22 - Brazil has announced a half million US dollars donation to help the people of disaster-ravaged Japan. 

Reportedly, the donation will be handed over to Red Cross to help in humanitarian operations, which include offering supplies such as water, food, clothes and medicines to the people affected by tsunami caused by the worst ever earthquake.

Antonio Patriota, Brazilian Foreign Minister, called his Japanese FM Takeaki Matsumoto to inform him about the donation and to extend their unity with Japan and Japanese people.

A large Brazilian community of 254,000 people currently lives in Japan. 

Over 8,000 people have been confirmed dead, while more than 12,000 were unaccounted for after a magnitude-9 earthquake struck northeast Japan March 11, creating an enormous tsunami.

New footage of one of the world's last uncontacted tribes living in the Brazilian rainforest.

Jose Carlos Meirelles works for FUNAI, a government agency that protects Brazil's indigenous people. Because of the threat posed by illegal logging and mining, he believes that the fight to protect these people depends on proving and publicising their existence. This aerial footage was shot from 1km away using a stabilised zoom lens.

Brazil is thought to be home to around 70 isolated tribes.

Aleksander Doba, Senior Polish Citizen, Completes Marathon Paddle Across Atlantic

The 64-year-old Polish, Aleksander Doba, buzzed around with his brave effort of completing a transatlantic kayaking expedition that lasted almost 99 days and spanned 3,320 miles. He reached northeast Brazil on Wednesday afternoon. He was heavily bearded and messy but seems to be extremely fit.

What he has done unbelievable is the longest-ever solo-kayaking voyage, in terms of time spent at sea; and still he told a little gathering in the remote fishing community of Acaraú, that after a little more rest he would like to continue to the United States.

Aleksander Doba left from Dakar in west Africa on October 26, 2010, on board a tailored 23-foot sea kayak, which is only 39 inches broad. This was his home for 98 days and 20 hours.

Before Aleksander Doba; three others have kayaked across the Atlantic in the past:  

1. Franz Romer in 1928;
2. Hannes Lindemann in 1956, and
3. Peter Bray in 2001.

But none of those voyages was directly from continent to continent (they stayed offshore islands during their journey), and none of those paddlers was a senior citizen.
