Exlusive Photos: Unification Church's First Mass Wedding Since Sun Myung Moon's Death

GAPYEONG, South Korea (Sun, Feb 17) — About 3500 couples tied their wedding knots Sunday in South Korea in the first mass wedding organized by the Unification Church on Sunday - the first since the death of their "messiah" and controversial church founder Sun Myung Moon.

Unification Church's First Mass Wedding Since Sun Myung Moon's Death

It was certainly an awesome event participated by thousands of identically-dressed couples - many of mixed nationality who had met just days before - taking part in the ceremony in Gapyeong, north-east of the capital, Seoul.
The event was not only participated by followers- often known as "Moonies" – inside South Korea; but more than 24,000 members were also married in other countries via video link.
Sunday's event carried a special resonance, with Moon's 70-year-old widow Hak Ja Han presiding for the first time without her husband who died in September last year because of complications from pneumonia. An estimated 30,000 people attended the 92-year-old's funeral.
The church's mass weddings began in the early 1960s and originally involved just a few dozen couples. Over the years they grew in size and attracted international media attention.
In 1997, some 30,000 couples were married in Washington. and two years later around 21,000 filled the Olympic Stadium in Seoul.

Utah Family Survive Plane's Crash Landing -- Video by Jonathan Fielding Now Trending

WELLSVILLE, Utah (Fri, Feb 15) – Utah family survives miraculously a crash landing which might easily be turned into the most tragic incident of their life. Seven-month-old baby boy is also among the survivors.

Utah Family Survive Plane's Crash Landing -- Video by Jonathan Fielding Now Trending

The most interesting thing about this accident was that the crash landing was filmed by the cellphone from inside the plane and the video was uploaded on Youtube and currently it is trending on Youtube.

The 28-year-old Jonathan Fielding was capturing video of his flight’s emergency landing in the snowy Utah countryside with his cellphone while he and his family were seated passengers. It’s not clear when the aborted flight occurred, but Fielding posted the video on YouTube Feb. 6.

Jonathan was taking his wife Kara out for a birthday flight with their 7-month-old son Jacob and Kara’s mother, when the pilot told them there was ice on the plane’s carburetor.

The pilot was experienced in field landings but unfortunately the snow caused the landing gear to sever from the plane, flipping the plane front to back and smashing the tail before it came to a rest upside down. No one was hurt in the accident save for bruises, whiplash and minor cuts.

In a shaken yet somewhat confident tone, Jonathan Fielding told the camera, “This is kind of exciting. I’m not worried. I think we’re going to be just fine.”

Researchers developed a computer program to reconstruct ancient languages

Computer scientists have apparently developed a program capable of reconstructing ancient languages using huge data computing methods and machine learning, according to BBC reports.

Researchers developed a computer program to reconstruct ancient languages

According to details; the software would be capable to rebuild protolanguages - the ancient tongues from which our modern-day languages developed. The new program will help ease the old slow and labor-intensive process of rebuilding old languages being used by linguists.

The model is based on the established linguistic theory that words evolve along the branches of a family tree. Linguists typically use what is known as the 'comparative method' to establish relationships between languages, identifying sounds that change with regularity over time to determine whether they share a common mother language.

The reports suggest that scientists have already used the program to recreate ancient Proto-Austronesian, which gradually developed into languages spoken in Polynesia and other places. The software developers’ team now plans to use the same program to help re-born original North American proto-languages.

The work is published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science.

Researchers apply this system to 637 Austronesian languages, providing an accurate, large-scale automatic reconstruction of a set of protolanguages.

Dr Dan Klein, an associate professor at the University of California, Berkeley - one of the researchers involved in the developing of program - told that the system still has limitations. For example, it can't handle morphological changes or re-duplications - how a word like 'cat' becomes 'kitty-cat'.

Dr. Klein said: "At a much deeper level, our system doesn't explain why or how certain changes happened, only that they probably did happen."
While researchers are able to reconstruct languages that date back thousands of years, there is still a question mark over whether it would ever be possible to go even further back to recreate the very first protolanguage from which all others evolved.

Facebook Deactivation Agreement for $200 -- Is it worth or not?

According to some media reports; a concerned dad has promised to pay $200 to his 14-year-old daughter if she quit Facebook. According to the deal Paul Baier will pay $200 to his teenage daughter Rachel Baier for quitting Facebook for five months.

Facebook Deactivation Agreement between Paul Baier and Rachel Baier

The most interesting part of the deal is that it’s not a verbal deal but in black-n-white duly signed by both the parties – Paul Baier and Rachel Baier – with dates specified precisely.

The wording of the written deal, with Facebook logo on it, read as follows:

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Facebook Deactivation Agreement

“I Rachel Baier agree to deactivate my Facebook Account from 2/4/13 to 6/26/13.

In return, my dad, Paul Baier, agrees to pay me $50 on 4/15/13 and $150 on 6/26/13. He/she will have access to my Facebook to change the password and to deactivate the account. This will prevent me from re-activating the account in the future.  I plan to use the money for the following purposes: stuff

Signed and agreed in full:

Rachel Baier                                                                Paul Baeir

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

It wasn't enough for the concerned Baul Baier, so he posted this “Facebook Deactivation Agreement” on his blog. In response to his posting he got some very interesting comments like:

One visitor ‘The Lark’ wrote ...

Hey Paul this is Mike Larkin from 1010 WINS radio station in New York City. We really love this story and want to interview either you or your daughter over the phone tonight. Let me know mlarkin@wins.com or 2123157090

And another visitor, RJS, commented ….

Great idea. I just read an online story about it. Perhaps, this will inspire other parents to do the same. Kudos, to you and your daughter!

Opinion:

For me the use of Facebook, the leading social media network in the world, is spreading like an addiction especially among youngsters. As we have heard all the way though our lives that “excess of everything is bad”, it also true for Facebook.

The increasing usage of Facebook among youngsters is not only hurting them psychologically, ethically and physically but it’s also hurting their studies and other social and physical activities.

I came across a shocking article “Facebook may be more dangerous than you think.” on Eye Guardian which states that half of all Americans are already on Facebook. The fastest growing segment of new users are pre-teens and teens. With over 250 million daily users, over 10 million of those are underage.

According to report; Sexting, cyber-bullying, online stalking are very common phenomena on Facebook, which are very difficult to handle by teens in most of the situations.

In short, when we allow underage kids onto sites such as Facebook - we are setting them loose on line to exposure to real life threats, child predators, inappropriate content and increased vulnerability to being involved in cyber bullying. We are putting our children in an unsafe situation.

The other point is by allowing our children to lie to open up a Facebook account, we are not sending them a good message. It’s okay to lie? It’s okay to lie about some things? According to the Pew Research Center’s Internet and American Life Project, 38% of 12 year olds in the U.S. were using social networks in 2009. Perhaps it seems benign, right now, but the next step…just around the corner could be them lying about underage drinking.

VIDEO: 42 Alien Planets Found -- Reality or Hoax..?

Forty two (42) alien planets have been discovered by a team of amateur astronomers, according to a new report out by Space.com, and the discovery also includes a Jupiter-size world that could potentially be habitable, by going through data collected by the NASA Kepler spacecraft.

According to details; 40 volunteers with the crowd-sourcing Planet Hunters project found the new planet candidates, including 15 planets which might probably have the signs of life and PH2 b, a huge planet compared to the size of Jupiter that the team confirmed to be in the habitable zone of its parent star.

The group of amateur researchers is now awaiting confirmation from professional astronomers, according to a Live Science report on Friday, January 11, 2013.

Chris Lintott, an English astrophysicist at the Department of Physics in Oxford University and works atZooniverse, explained that “These are planet candidates that slipped through the net, being missed by professional astronomers and rescued by volunteers in front of their web browsers. It’s remarkable to think that absolutely anyone can discover a planet.”

Video and Photos: Mammoth carcass found in Siberia by 11-year-old Zhenya Salinder

MOSCOW, Russia (Sat, Oct. 06) – Reported by madn3wz

Mammoth carcass found in Siberia by 11-year-old Zhenya Salinde

A well-preserved carcass of a teenage mammoth has been discovered in the permafrost in northern Siberia truly accidentally when an eleven-year-old boy was just wandering in the area with his dog.

According to details; the 11-year-old Zhenya Salinder found the sixteen-year-old mammoth - in Sopochnaya Karga, 3,500km (2,200 miles) northeast of Moscow - which is 2-meter tall and weighs about 500kgs, in late September when he spotted its limbs sticking out of the frozen mud.

Mammoth carcass found in Siberia by 11-year-old Zhenya Salinde

Professor Alexei Tikhonov of the Zoology Institute in St. Petersburg said on Friday while announcing the discovery:

"A teenage mammoth (named as Jenya by the scientists) who once roamed the Siberian tundra in search of fodder and females might have been killed by an Ice Age man on a summer day tens of thousands of years ago".

Tikhonov told the AP news agency that Jenya was "pretty small for his age, But what killed Jenya was not his size but a missing left tusk that made him unfit for fights with other mammoths or human hunters who were settling the Siberian marshes and swamps some 20,000-30,000 years ago".

The splits on Jenya's remaining tusk show a "possible human touch," he added.

Up to 13 feet in height and 10 tons in weight, mammoths migrated across huge areas between Great Britain and North America and were driven to extinction by humans and the changing climate.

Wooly mammoths are thought to have died out around 10,000 years ago, although scientists think small groups of them lived longer in Alaska and on Russia’s Wrangel Island off the Siberian coast.

Earlier this year, a very well preserved juvenile mammoth nicknamed Yuka was unveiled by scientists, according to BBC News

Found in the Yakutia region of Russia, it preserves much of its soft tissue and strawberry-blonde coat of hair. There were also signs from its remains that humans may have stolen the carcass from lions and perhaps even stashed it for eating at a later date.

Latest Youtube Viral Video: "In Descent Proposal"

"The checklist is complete ... and it says the rings may be engaged ... and to initiate the ring engagement procedure," his girlfriend reads. "Will you marry me?" she continues, taking several seconds to realize that the plane wasn't actually about to go down. Luckily for Thompson, his girlfriend was impressed by the stunt and accepted the "In Descent Proposal."

A pilot has come up with a unique idea of proposing to his girlfriend.

It's just unbelievable that Ryan Thompson proposed to his girlfriend, Carly Kennedy, by pretending the plane he was piloting was just getting out of control and might be crashed.

You see, Ryan Thompson tricked Carly Kennedy into thinking the plane was going down and the flight controls weren’t responding so she could read him the instructions on what to do. Those instructions were, of course, altered to reveal his proposal.

VIDEO: "Swimming Dinosaur" -- 655-pound leatherback turtle released off Cape Cod

A 655-pound, 7-feet long giant leatherback sea turtle, also described as “like a swimming dinosaur”  was released off Cape Cod by New England Aquarium on Saturday after treating the endangered specie to stabilize its blood values and oxygen levels.

The giant turtle was caught stranded in Pamet Harbor, near the town of Truro, Mass., on Thursday. Experts at the  New England Aquarium say the male turtle was underweight and lethargic, and a large portion of its left front flipper was missing because of some kind of mysterious underwater accident.

The rescue is a rare of its kind and leatherback turtles are open-ocean creature and cannot be kept in captivity. Even at 655 pounds, the turtle is considered underweight in comparison to its fellow leatherbacks, which typically weigh around 1,000 pounds, according to Aquarium expert Tony LaCasse.

VIDEO: Mona Lisa skeleton unearthed in St. Ursula, Italy -- Claimed Silvano Vinceti

FLORENCE, Italy (Tue, July 24) – Italian archaeologists have dug out a skeleton today believed to be of Lisa Gherardini, the woman who inspired one of the most emblematic works of Leonardo da Vinci, “Mona Lisa”.

Mona Lisa remains unearthed in St. Ursula, Florence, Italy
Lisa Gherardini (1479-1542), also known as Lisa del Giocondo, is considered by some experts as the model of the famous portrait of the Mona Lisa exhibited at the Louvre Museum in Paris, is undoubtedly one of the world's most familiar paintings.

According to details; archaeologists have found bones near the convent of Sant'Orsola (or St. Ursula) in Italian city of Florence. These remains will be sent to the Department for the Conservation of Cultural Property in Ravenna (northern Italy), to be examined, the researchers said.

A team of archaeologists began excavations in this convent last year after documents have confirmed that Gherardini, wife of a wealthy silk merchant of Florence (Francesco del Giocondo), lived in place after the death of her husband – Francesco del Giocondo.

The documents also revealed that Lisa Gherardini was under the care of his two daughters who were nuns.

Famous art researcher Silvano Vinceti, also head of the team of archaeologists, believes that this discovery, made in an abandoned convent, is particularly exciting. But going further emphasized performed tests of the remains to verify the identity, writes Lusa.

"I can say that we have reached the most exciting part of the investigation," said Vinceti, an expert in solving mysteries related to the art world.

"It is the culmination of our work and we are close to answering the main question: whether or not we find the remains of Lisa Gherardini?" Vinceti said further.

UFO mystery: Latest sighting in Qawra, Malta -- Captured by Zfort Ertfay

VALLETTA, Malta (Mon, Jul 16) – A tourist from Romania photographed a UFO coincidently while he was walking along the seafront in the popular northeast Malta tourist town of Qawra.

UFO sighting in Qawra, Malta: Romanian tourist captured the object in his cell-phone camera. (Credit: Zfort Ertfay/Times of Malta)

According to details; the 29-year-old Zfort Ertfay witnessed something mysterious hovering over the sea on Thursday (July 12) at about 8:00 pm (local time). Ertfay managed to capture the object in his cell-phone camera, unable to make out what exactly it was, except that it was triangular in shape, dark and flying at high speed.

He explains, “I was out walking, when, all of a sudden, I saw something appear in the sky. It disappeared in a matter of a few seconds.”

The Times of Malta reports that an intricate military exercise by the Armed Forces of Malta, which included an Augusta AV212 helicopter, took place in the same area on that day. However, it is recorded to have taken place at about 10 p.m., a couple of hours after the claimed UFO sighting. The helicopter took off at 9.05 p.m.

The Malta Air Traffic Services, which monitors whatever is in Maltese airspace, said: “From an air traffic management perspective, all aircraft flying at that hour were accounted for”. They received no reports about any abnormal sightings, Times of Malta reported further.

The Ertfay’s captured photo of the UFO is unclear and provides very little detail. Judging by the photo alone, the object looks like a seagull in flight. But if the Ertfay’s indication is accurate, and he did observe the object hovering over the sea before taking off, then the bird theory does not fit this particular situation.
