According to reports; local leaders in the eastern city of Benghazi have revealed their plans for larger autonomy from Libya’s National Transitional Council (NTC) based in Tripoli.

The details show that 3,000 delegates favored the formation of a new council to control their own issues. The announcement puts them on a conflict with the country’s interim leadership.

The formation of the ‘Federal Union’ includes the province of Cyrenaica which is home to Libya’s biggest oil fields. But not everyone approves of the one-sided decision. 

Reacting to the announcement; Mustafa Abdel-Jalil, NTC Chairman, warned of a foreign conspire to split up the country. 

Speaking in Tripoli Abdel-Jalil said: “As the National Transitional Council we are surprised at these voices calling for division in Libya. We call on all Libyans to gather round the internationally legitimate Council.”

Mexican intelligence foiled the entry plan of Saadi Gaddafi and family members

MEXICO CITY, Mexico (Dec. 07) – An alleged plan to smuggle one of the sons of late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and few other family members to Mexico has been foiled by Mexican intelligence, high profile authorities claimed on Wednesday.

According to details; the 38-year-old al-Saadi Gaddafi and few family members were planning to enter in Mexico with fake names and fake documents.

According to Alejandro Poire, the interior secretary, the aides – including two Mexican, a Canadian and a Danish suspect - in this foiled plan opened bank accounts and got involved in buying properties in Mexico that were to have been used as safe places by al-Saadi Gaddafi being in Mexico.

Several people have been arrested as a result of unfolding the plan in September before it could be materialized.

Al-Saadi Gaddafi, the departed Gaddafi's third son, is currently living under house arrest in the Western African country of Niger. Saadi Gaddafi is one of four Gaddafi family members who escaped from war-torn Libya during the revolt. His mother Safia, older brother Muhammad and sister Ayesha are all in Algeria.

Saadi Gaddafi reportedly led his own mercenaries and was indicted of directing open fire on civilians during the early phases of the rebellion that eventually led to the fall of his father's 42-year regime.

TRIPOLI, Libya – Saif al-Islam, the fugitive son of Libya’s former leader Moammar Gaddafi, was arrested in southern desert near Ubari, Libya's interim justice minister and other officials have said.

Reportedly, Saif al-Islam and three armed companions were arrested by fighters from the western mountain city of Zintan on Saturday and immediately transported to Zintan Military Airport. The reports further suggested that he was arrested when he was trying to escape to Niger in a convoy. Angry mob tried to attack Saif al-Islam when he was shifted to Zintan Military base.

The British-educated 39-year-old Saif al-Islam was on the run since the fall of Libyan capital Tripoli in the hands of NTC fighters. He was also seen as Moammar Gaddafi’s heir apparent and the last key member of Gaddafi’s family arrested or captured in Libya.

The arrest of Saif al-Islam was celebrated across Libya. He is also wanted by International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged crimes against humanity in Libya at The Hague. ICC had issued his arrest warrants in June. EU also urged Libya to try Saif al-Islam in cooperation with the ICC.

Reacting to the arrest news of Saif al-Islam; ICC prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo said that Saif al-Islam would face justice. The prosecutor is expected to reach Libya to discuss where Saif al-Islam will be tried.

Moammar Gaddafi's Son, Saif al-Silam, Was Traced and Surrounded by NTC Fighters Near Bani Walid

BANI WALID, Libya – The fugitive son of killed Moammar Gaddafi, Saif al-Islam, has reportedly taken refuge on a safe place near the town of Bani Walid, 150 km (100 miles) southeast of Tripoli, reported by Reuters as saying the NTC military commander.

Saif al-Islam, who vanished after escaping from Sirte following its fall to revolutionary fighters on Sunday, is hiding in the south of the town of Bani Walid, NTC military commander Abdel Majid Mlegta told Reuters on Sunday. Anti-Gaddafi Forces Entered Sirte, the Last Stronghold of Col. Muammar Gaddafi

TRIPOLI, Libya (Sept. 16) – Forces have entered the last stronghold of defiant Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi breaking all the defences and defeating pro-Gaddafi forces around coastal city of Sirte, says Libya’s interim government.

National Transitional Council (NTC) officials told late Thursday several thousand of their fighters from Misrata advanced into the centre of former leader Muammar Gaddafi's hometown, where they faced heavy resistance from elite loyalist troops and snipers.

Four of their fighters had been killed and seven others wounded in this fight to conquer Sirte, NTC military officials told further.

On Thursday British Prime Minister David Cameron and French President Nicolas Sarkozy were warmly welcomed by masses in Tripoli and the eastern city of Benghazi, where they promised that the NATO military campaign would continue for as long as it is needed.

The two leaders said they would introduce a United Nations Security Council draft resolution Friday that would establish a U.N. mission in Libya, unfreeze Libyan assets, remove the no-fly zone for civilian flights and abolish the international arms embargo.

They also said they would assist Libya's new government to extend its authority throughout the country and track down Mr. Gaddafi and members of his inner circle.

In Tripoli, Mr. Cameron called on the fugitive leader and his followers to “give up.” Mr. Sarkozy added that he would urge authorities in neighboring Niger, a former French colony, to detain Mr. Gaddafi's associates who entered the country in recent days.

The visiting leaders held talks in Tripoli with National Transitional Council Chairman Mustafa Abdel Jalil, who said the NTC will reward key allies for their help in ending Mr. Gadhafi's rule as it decides future oil and gas contracts.

Britain and France pushed for NATO action to protect civilians against forces loyal to Mr. Gadhafi, and the French were the first to recognize the NTC as the official representative of the Libyan people.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is also scheduled to visit Libya this week as part of a North African tour.

TRIPOLI, Libya (September 02) – Libya’s deserted leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi yet again showed his intentions not to surrender and to keep on fighting against west.

In his latest message, broadcasted on Syrian satellite TV network at the 42nd anniversary of the coup which brought him to power, Gaddafi vowed to get ready for "a long battle" even if Libya burns. Muammar Gaddafi’s audio message came at the time when major conference kicked off in Paris on assisting the rebel National Transitional Council (NTC) to set up a new democratic administration. 

He pushed his supporters to keep alive their struggle against the uprising that has occupied most of the country and forced him to run away as fugitive.

In a recorded message, Muammar Gaddafi incited his supporters for guerrilla warfare. "Prepare yourselves for a gang and guerrilla war, for urban warfare and popular resistance in every town". "The aim is to defeat the enemy everywhere, whether Libyan or foreign", affirmed the Colonel, "the people will never allow our oil wells to end up under the control of the West, our resistance will be long and drawn out".

RAF Awacs, US Rivet, British Sentinel and ISTAR - Options Being Used to Trace Muammar Gaddafi

TRIPOLI, Libya (August 23) – The hunt is already on to track defiant Libyan leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi as he is still untraced even after more than 48 hours of rebel forces presence in Libyan capital Tripoli.

On the other hand the dramatic appearance of Saif ul-Islam trashed all the reports of capturing Gaddafi sons by NTC. 

There are some rumours that Col. Gaddafi might be fled to Angola or Zimbabwe, which are both his close regional allies; but most of the close sources still believe that he is holed somewhere in Libya, most probably in his remote stronghold of Sirte in southern part of the country.

Mustafa Abdul-Jalil, the leader of the rebel movement, confessed that he too did not know if Muammar Gaddafi was hidden inside Bab al-Aziziya compound or had fled away outside the country.

United States, NATO and other western allies are using every single option to trace the whereabouts of Muammar Gaddafi. Following are the main options being used to track Gaddafi if he is inside Libya, had fled away already or planning to escape: 

·        Royal Air Force Awacs airborne radar are supposed to be monitoring all civilian aircraft leaving Tripoli and elsewhere in case Gaddafi tries to escape by air, The Telegraph reported.

·        The United States has also arranged Rivet Joint spy aircraft which will be checking all communications by mobile or satellite phone.

But it is strictly believed by intelligence sources that Gaddafi has been 'extremely clever' and will never try to use any communication device which can be traced and ultimately identify his location.

·        Thirdly, British Sentinel reconnaissance aircraft will use their sophisticated Astor radar to track vehicle convoys heading into the desert.

·        An finally; in a meeting of the National Security Council, chaired by British Prime Minister David Cameron, ministers asked the military to 'utilise all ISTAR (Intelligence Surveillance, Target Acquisition, and Reconnaissance) assets' to find Gaddafi.

Libyan Rebel Forces Fighting Just Few Miles Away From Tripoli (Latest Video Report)

TRIPOLI, Libya – The Libyan rebels, after getting extensive gains in taking cities around Tripoli in recent weeks, were pushing forward Sunday toward the capital.

According to details; intense fighting and NATO bombing was reported overnight in the Libyan capital, even as rebels fighting the forces of embattled Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi pushed closer to Tripoli Sunday and now say they are only 20 miles away.

Libyan rebels, after declaring they had total control of Zawiyah Saturday as a result of week-long brutal battle for the strategic city, on Sunday fought into the town of Jaddayim, the first city on the road to Tripoli from Zawiyah and only 25 miles to the east of the capital. 

The BBC reports that the rebels took the city Sunday, and there are now hundreds of rebel fighters in the town on foot and in trucks. The Associated Press reports that the rebels were coming under heavy fire from pro-Gaddafi forces in the town.

The rebel forces picked up the momentum to control Tripoli after more senior aides to Col. Muammar Gaddafi apparently have defected and with the recent reports it is visible that Gaddafi’s days appear numbered. But Gaddafi’s forces are fighting back violently, and it is uncertain how long the battle for the capital will last.

A top diplomatic mission of embattled Libyan leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi visited China on Tuesday to ask China play a mediation role between the government and the opposition to bring about a “political resolution” to end the crisis in war-torn Libya. 

During a media briefing Hong Lei, spokesperson of Chinese foreign ministry, told that Libyan Foreign Minister Abdelati Obeidi, a special envoy of Gaddafi made a surprise visit here. 

He is likely to meet Chinese officials including Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi. Obeidi’s arrival came days after Chinese diplomats for the first time met Chairman of the Libya’s National Transitional Council (CNT) Mustafa Abdel Jalil, who is leading the NATO backed rebellion against Gaddafi. 

It is not yet clear whether China had any specific proposal on hand to convince Muammar Gaddafi to leave.

In the mean time, defiant Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi intended to fight to the death in a bold speech Tuesday after NATO military aircraft beganh a series of 26 daytime airstrikes on Tripoli.

MISRATA, Libya (May 9) – Forces loyal to defiant Libyan leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi continuing blockade to Misrata; are deepening their assault on the lifeline port, as fighters warned they were running low on critical food and fuel supplies.

Misrata's supplies of "basic foodstuffs" might last maximum a month, and fuel for 2-3 weeks, Saddoun Misurati, a rebel forces’ spokesperson, told reporters in Benghazi, the de facto rebel capital.

Two loud explosions were also heard on Sunday in Tripoli, where the regime of embattled Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has its headquarters, as jets flew overhead, witnesses said.

Gaddafi forces on the environs have in recent days increased shelling and rocketing of Misrata, cutting down relief efforts via the city's only lifeline. NATO has also accused Gaddafi forces of mining the harbour in an effort to cut the aid.

TRIPOLI, Libya - - Eman al-Obeidi, who grabbed international attention for her voicing her rape charges against the troops of Muammar Gaddafi, has reportedly fled away to Tunisia on Thursday (May 5).

As per CNN reports; Eman al-Obeidi succeeded to escape to Tunisia with the help of a defecting military officer and his family. Eman al-Obeidi said she crossed into Tunisia using a refugee document. 

Reportedly, she travelled by a car all the way from Tripoli to Tunisia which she described as a ‘tiring journey’. She told media that her car was stopped several times on different check posts; but when the military officer, carrying her in the car, would show his permit and they would be permitted to pass the check point every time.  

According to Western diplomatic sources; European diplomats took her from the border area to Tunis, and are providing her shelter there while she thinks about her future.

Eman al-Obeidi told that she was afraid she was being chased and might still be at risk, adding that she hoped she could obtain protection from any western government.

16 Killed, 32 Missing in Capsized Boat, Heading to Italy, Near Libyan Coast

ROME, Italy – According to Ansa news agency; at least 16 Africans have been killed and 32 have still been missing as an overloaded boat, heading to Italy, overturned just few meters away from Libyan coast.

 Reportedly, the boat had left early Friday with more than 600 people on board. It was following in the paths of another vessel that was carrying 655 migrants to the Italian island of Lampedusa overnight. 

Ansa further reported, quoting a Somali journalist, Aden Sabrie, as saying; there were three babies and several ladies among the 16 bodies recovered. Many of the passengers were survived by swimming to the nearby seashore. 

Incidents of this kind are not uncommon in the Mediterranean. 

Up to 200 people were feared to have drowned exactly a month ago when a boat carrying migrants from Libya capsized in rough seas off Lampedusa.

 The political unrest and economical issues in North Africa have raised the numbers of would-be migrants heading to Italy.

Car Bomb Blast Near HQ of Libyan Opposition, National Transition Council (Euronews Video Report)

BENGHAZI  - - A car bomb blew up on Tuesday close to the headquarters of the Libyan opposition, National Transition Council, in the eastern city of Benghazi.

The bombing took place just 200 metres far from the rebels' Head Quarter. No loss of lives has been reported, but nearby buildings were damaged badly.

It is the first incidence of car bombing in Benghazi, a stronghold of Libyan rebels, since anti-Gaddafi demonstrations erupted in mid-February. The city, along with most other eastern cities and towns, has been under rebel control since then.

MISRATA, Libya – After the rumours about the possible chemical weapon use against Libyan rebels’ stronghold Misrata; Libya’s defiant leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi's forces used tanks to shell the besieged western town of Misrata on Monday. 

Libyan activist Rida al-Montasser told that the latest onslaught came after Gaddafi forces brought their artillery to the western gates of Misrata and the shelling started up early Monday morning and only paused with the threat of NATO airstrikes, he said.

Over the past two months hundreds have been died in Misrata as Col. Gaddafi has attempted to retake the control of the only major rebel stronghold in the western part of the country. Rebels repelled Gaddafi forces out of several areas in the centre of the city about a week ago, but they have responded with persistent shelling from the bounds.

Gaddafi Survived as NATO Airstrike Killed His Son, Saif al-Arab Gaddafi, and Three Grandchildren: Moussa Ibrahim

TRIPOLI, May 1 – Reportedly, a son and three grandchildren of defiant Libyan leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi were killed in a NATO airstrike; but Col. Gaddafi survived in this deadly attack.

Mousa Ibrahim also confirmed the death of Gaddafi’s 29-year-old son, Saif al-Arab Gaddafi, and the grandchildren. Saif al-Arab Gaddafi was a student, he further told.

Later on, reporters and media were taken to the place of NATO strike where they saw extensive damage.

Gaddafi Charged for Planning Mass Rape by Giving Viagra to His Forces: Susan Rice

WASHINGTON - A high profile U.S official has charged that defiant Libyan leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi has supplied Viagra to his forces to persuade them to perform mass rape. Viagra is normally used for medical treatment of men’s sexual inability issues. 

Reportedly, the Viagra issue was raised by Susan Rice, United States Ambassador to the UN, during a discussion about “whether there is moral equivalence between the Qadhafi forces and the rebels”.

Apparently the statement by Susan Rice is based upon the Al Jazirah News channel reports last month which stated that “Libya-based doctors... had found Viagra in the pockets of pro-Qadhafi soldiers”.

Media quoted a diplomatic source, on condition of anonymity, telling that Susan Rice was trying to convince the other members that its not only a civil war in Libya but Muammar Gaddafi is involved in serious human rights abuses, including sniper shooting civilians and children, and the Viagra mass rape issue.
