Ahmadinejad in Egypt on historic visit, President Morsi welcomed him on Cairo airport

CAIRO, Egypt (Tue, Feb. 05) – Egypt's Islamist President Mohammed Morsi welcomed Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad at the Cairo International airport on Tuesday.

This is undoubtedly a historical visit by any Iranian State head since Iran’s Islamic revolution in 19779, which shows the more open ties that have developed since Egyptians elected an Islamist head of state.

Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi kissed his Iranian counterpart as he got off from his plane at Cairo airport, footage broadcast by Egyptian state television showed.

Since the early 2011 revolution that deposed longtime Egyptian ruler Hosni Mubarak, Iran has taken significant steps to recover its relations with Egypt. And now Ahmadinejad is leading the Iranian delegation to the Cairo summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which begins February 6, which will show the world that two regional powers are coming close.

According to AP News; security officials, on condition of anonymity, say Iranian President has also plans to visit the pyramids in Giza.

Watch VIDEO: Hillary Clinton's ugly trip to Egypt ended in thrown shoes and tomatoes

ALEXANDRIA, EGYPT (Mon, Jul 16) – Hillary Clinton may have visited hundreds of countries as U.S. Secretary of State but few visits might have ended as badly as her recent trip to Egypt.

Hillary Clinton's ugly trip to Egypt ended in thrown shoes and tomatoes
Angry protesters threw tomatoes and shoes at U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's motorcade on Sunday during her first visit to Egypt since the election of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi.

A tomato hit an Egyptian official on the face, and shoes and a water bottle landed near the armored vehicles carrying Clinton's delegation members in the port city of Alexandria after she delivered a speech on democratic rights.

Protesters also chanted: "Monica, Monica", a reference to Former President Bill Clinton's extra-marital affair. Some chanted: "leave, Clinton", Egyptian security officials said.

Though it was unclear who the protesters were or what were their political affiliations, but they showed their hatred for U.S. influence on their country's political system. Protests and demonstrations have become common in Egypt since former President Hosni Mubarak, long-time US ally, was brought down by massive uprising last year.

Later on Clinton left for Israel on her last leg of 8-nation tour. She arrived in Israel today for top-level talks with Israeli officials expected to focus on Iran's nuclear programme and the stalled peace process.

Egypt is gripped by political uncertainty as two major forces, the military and the Muslim Brotherhood, engage in a power struggle over the future of a country that remains without a permanent constitution, parliament or government.

On Saturday night, protesters outside Clinton's luxury hotel in Cairo chanted anti-Islamist slogans, accusing the United States of backing the Muslim Brotherhood's rise to power.

In her speech at the newly re-opened U.S. consulate in Alexandria, Hillary Clinton rejected suggestions that the United States, which had long supported former Mubarak, was backing one faction or another in Egypt following his ouster last year.

"I want to be clear that the United States is not in the business, in Egypt, of choosing winners and losers, even if we could, which of course we cannot," she said.

"We are prepared to work with you as you chart your course, as you establish your democracy," she added. "We want to stand for principles, for values, not for people or for parties."

Ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak accused authorities of plan to kill him

CAIRO, Egypt (Tue, Jun 12) – “They want to kill me. Save me, Farid, find me a solution." This is the message delivered by Egypt's ousted president Hosni Mubarak to his lawyer Farid al-Deeb.
Ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak accused authorities of plan to kill him
Mubarak has reportedly accused the authorities of plan to kill him in jail as his health conditions got worse. Mubarak is presently serving a life sentence over protester killings during the uprising against his regime last year.

Supporters of the 84-year-old former president have demanded authorities to shift him from jail to military hospital due to his deteriorating health as medical facilities in the prison hospital are not enough to treat Mubarak at this old age.

"Mubarak, like any prisoner on his place, must be transferred to the military hospital," said one of his supporters, Mohamed Zahran.

On June 2, the Cairo criminal court sentenced Mubarak to life imprisonment after being declared guilty of giving orders to kill protesters during an uprising in January 2011. He is serving his term in Tora prison near Cairo.
Media reports Monday said prison doctors had to use a defibrillator as Mubarak's heart had stopped twice. The interior ministry, however, dismissed the reports, saying the ex-president was in "grave, but stable" condition.

Watch Hosni Mubarak Trial Live on Egypt State TV Today (Saturday, June 02)

CAIRO, Egypt (Sat, Jun 02) – The historical verdict in the case of former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak will be announced today. Egyptian state television is set to telecast live the verdict and sentencing of ex-president, his sons and security chiefs in a murder and corruption trial, official media reported.

Ailing Mubarak, the only dictator overthrown in the Arab Spring to be put in the dock, former interior minister Habib al-Adly and six others could face the scaffold if indicted of ordering the deaths of some of the about 850 people killed during the revolt.

They have all denied that they ordered police to shoot protesters or use deadly force during the uprising, in which demonstrators torched police stations across the country.

Hosni Mubarak and two of his sons Alaa and Gamal along with business partner Hussein Salem, who escaped to Spain, are also on trial over corruption issues.
Chief Judge Ahmed Rifaat is likely not only to issue a verdict but pass sentence on those that will be accused of wrongdoing.

As far as the live coverage of the historical verdict is concerned state television will charge foreign media between $7,000 and $10,000 to buy the coverage right, as reported by MENA.

Young female student brings honor to Egypt -- Aisha Mustafa developed new spacecraft propulsion system

I wonder if NASA have ever think about the method of driving spacecrafts and satellites through space using something else other than ordinary rocket engines; but a 19-year-old student from Egypt has actually made it possible.

Young female student brings honor to Egypt -- Aisha Mustafa developed new spacecraft propulsion system
Aisha Mustafa, a university student of Physics, has patented her invention - with Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT). Her invented method is a new type of propulsion system for spacecraft that uses cutting edge quantum physics instead of rockets and thrusters.

The Mail Online has described the achievement of Aisha Mustafa as ‘the invention 'leapfrogs' NASA research, and uses a hi-tech quantum effect to drive satellites through space, rather than ordinary rocket engines.’

Mustafa invented a way of tapping this quantum effect via what's known as the dynamic Casimir-Polder Effect. This uses a "moving mirror" cavity, where two very reflective very flat plates are held close together, and then moved slightly to interact with the quantum particle sea.

It might sound horribly technical, so in simple words Mustafa’s propelling device is based upon a scientific mix between quantum physics, space technology, chemical reactions and electrical sciences.

Mustafa's drive isn't exactly Warp Factor Ten material, but it provides enough energy for satellites to maneuver easily through space. Instead of using nuclear reactors or jets, Mustafa's satellites could generate drive using the panels.

The 19-year-old says she aims to test her invention in future space missions.

Google Doodle celebrates birthday of archaeologist, Howard Carter - the discoverer of the tomb of Tutankhamun

Today's Google doodle pays honor to an English archaeologist and Egyptologist Horward Carter, whose most significant contribution to his field was the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun, the Egyptian pharaoh of the 18th dynasty, in 1922.

Google Doodle celebrates birthday of archaeologist, Howard Carter - the discoverer of the tomb of Tutankhamun
The 138th birthday of this great archaeologist is celebrated in the latest Google doodle, a colorful graphic depicting the British archaeologist looking keenly a display of ancient Egyptian treasures.

Carter was born in London on 9 May 1874 and took off to Egypt at the age of 17, to assist in the excavation and recording of Middle Kingdom tombs. He transformed his rawness into an asset, coming up with some rather novel skills while replicating the decoration of tombs being excavated.

In 1899, Howard was appointed the first chief inspector of the Egyptian Antiquities Service (EAS). Cartor monitored scores of excavations at Thebes (now known as Luxor).

On 4 November 1922, Carter's excavation group found the steps leading to Tutankhamun's tomb, by far the best preserved and most intact pharaonic tomb ever found in the Valley of the Kings.

At this time Carter wrote in his pocket diary: "Discovered tomb under tomb of Ramsses VI investigated same & found seals intact."

He died of lymphoma in Kensington, London, on March 2, 1939 at the age of 64. He was buried in the Putney Vale Cemetery in London., and on his gravestone is written: "May your spirit live, May you spend millions of years, You who love Thebes, Sitting with your face to the north wind, Your eyes beholding happiness" and "O night, spread thy wings over me as the imperishable stars".
