Australia created history by winning fourth consecutive Champions Trophy title

AUCKLAND, New Zealand (Dec. 11) - Australia successfully defended their title beating Spain in a close contest in the final of Champions Hockey Trophy Tournament here today at the Auckland’s North Harbor hockey stadium.

Australia won fourth consecutive Champions Trophy title

The Kookaburras have created history with this 1-0 victory by winning the FIH Champions Trophy tournaments fourth time consecutively.

Australian forward Eddie Ockenden was in the right place at the right time to play a key role in this historical victory for his team. He scored the only goal of the match just 11 minutes before the final whistle on a penalty corner rebound.

Men's Hockey Champions Trophy Final: Australia v Spain -- The Kookaburras Hunting for Historical Victory

AUCKLAND, New Zealand (Dec. 11) – Australia is just hours away to create a history in Field Hockey, if they managed to take down spirited Spaniards in the grand final of Men’s Hockey Champions Trophy tournament in Auckland. That will be fourth consecutive victory for The Kookaburras in Champions Trophy Hockey Tournament.

The Kookaburras have held off a determined New Zealand on Saturday to remain undefeated at the Champions Trophy with a 2-1 win in Auckland, New Zealand. Although they had qualified for the grand final even before their last outing against the hosts New Zealand; but they didn’t waste a chance to go for final with a morale booster tag of “undefeated”.

On the other hand; Spain defeated the Netherlands 3-1 on Saturday to set up a hockey Champions Trophy final showdown against defending champions and World No. 1 Australia.

Hockey Champions Trophy Updates: Pakistan undone by Spain

AUCKLAND, New Zealand (Dec. 05) – Pakistan lost their second match of the Hockey Champions Trophy against Spain here at North Harbor hockey stadium, Auckland. Pakistan has virtually out of the tournament after losing by 4-2 to Spain.

Spanish penalty corner specialist Pau Quemada was the hero in their comprehensive victory by 4-2 over Pakistan. Spain took the lead through penalty corner rebound goal by Santi Freixa; but Pakistan managed to equalize with am skilful field goal by Shakeel Abbasi in the 9th minute of the match. Abbasi punished some weak Spanish defending by squeezing the ball between the legs of goalkeeper Francisco Cortes.

Pakistan ready to take on Spain in the Hockey Champions Trophy

In the 8-nation coveted tournament, which got underway here today (Saturday, Dec. 03) at North Harbor hockey stadium, four matches were played today while total of four matches are scheduled on the second day of the tournament (Sunday, Dec. 04).

Tomorrow’s (Sunday, Dec. 04) matches’ schedule is given below:

• Match No. 1

Netherlands v Germany (Pool B) on 12:05 (Local Time) at Auckland.

• Match No. 2

S Korea v New Zealand (Pool B) on 14:05 (Local Time) at Auckland.

• Match No. 3

Australia v Great Britain (Pool A) on 16:05 (Local Time) at Auckland.

• Match No. 4

Spain v Pakistan (Pool A) on 18:05 (Local Time) at Auckland.

All matches will be broadcasted live on Ten Sports.

Pakistan Hockey: Coach and captain hopeful for a powerful show in Champions Trophy

AUCKLAND, New Zealand – Men’s Hockey Champion Trophy 2011 is just 4 days away from kicking off in Auckland, New Zealand. The coveted tournament will start from December 3 and will last up to December 11.

Total eight teams, including Pakistan, are participating in this 33rd edition of the tournament; which was initially scheduled to be played in India but shifted to New Zealand due to some internal problems in Indian Hockey Federation. Owen Glenn, a business man from New Zealand, played an important role in bringing the event to his country.

Other teams in 8-nation tournament are Australia, Spain, Great Britain, Netherlands, South Korea, Germany and the hosts New Zealand. Teams are divided into two Pools and Pakistan is placed in Pool A along with favorites Australia, Spain and Great Britain. Two rounds of ‘robin round’ will be played before the finals. Pakistan will face Great Britain in their opening clash on December 3.

Pakistan’s 18-member hockey team left from Karachi to Auckland on Saturday (Nov. 26) from Quaid-e-Azam International Airport under the captaincy of Muhammad Imran, who is very confident, as well coach Khawaja Junaid, for a powerful show of men in green in the tournament.

This is Pakistan’s first appearance in Champions Trophy in last four years. The Pakistanis were unable to qualify for the last three editions of the elite hockey tournament and have only been able to make the cut for the 2011 event as wildcard entrants..... Continue reading HERE.

The man – the only runner we could see with no clothes on (other than the obligatory handkerchief around his neck, of course) – was singled out by the beast and thrown into the air by its horns.

He joined thousands of thrill-seekers to run with the bulls on a crowded fourth day at the San Fermin festival in Pamplona; but got a lesson her will never forget in rest of his life. 

The naked thrill-seeker landed on the ground with a thump - prompting those nearby to immediately fear for his safety.

Fortunately for the man, however, the bull went charging in the opposite direction, leaving some of the other spectators to come to the man’s aid.

But at the end notorious streaker, who was tossed up into the air by a young calf in the bullring after the running, was detained for causing a 'public disturbance'.

Reportedly, the 32-year-old mountain specialist Xavier Tondo was killed in a freaky and mysterious accident.

According to initial reports by police Tondo was crushed between his car and garage gate when he got out of his car to open the garage gate, but became pinned when his car rolled forward.

Xavier Tondo was preparing for Tour de France 2011.

ARONA, Spain (May 14) – A Bulgarian citizen, identified as Deyan Valentinov D, was held by police when he was trying to escape with a head of a British woman.

Reportedly, 28-year-old Bulgarian appeared in a Chinese general goods store on the Spanish island of Tenerife, with a knife in his hand and attacked a 60-year-old British woman. 

Bulgarian unhinged knifeman beheaded that British and fled with her head, police sources revealed. He threw the head of woman to the pavement later on. 

Bulgarian was reportedly released recently from psychiatric hospital and claimed himself as a 'Prophet of God'.


The British woman had no relation to the attacker, police further told.

Second-ranked Djokovic squandered a 4-0 lead in the first set but recovered to end Nadal's latest winning streak on clay at 37 matches and earn the Serb his third straight victory over Nadal in finals this season. Federer also lost to Djokovic in the finals at Miami and Indian Wells this year.

Doping Ban Lifted From Tour de France Champion Spanish Cyclist, Alberto Contador

MADRID - According to Spanish media especially El Pais newspaper; Alberto Contador, 2010 Tour de France champion, has been cleared of alleged doping charges during Tour de France in July last year. 

 Alberto Contador was tested positive for the prohibited substance clenbuterol; but he claimed that it was due to eating contaminated beef at the last day of the race. According to the test reports 50 picograms per milliliter of clenbuterol were found in his body.

Deal Finalized to Build Sports Academy in Saudi Arabia by Real Madrid

Madrid, Spain - One of the world's richest football clubs, Real Madrid, have unveiled their plans to build a sports academy in Saudi Arabia. The deal was finalized in the meeting between the officials of Real Madrid and Saudi Arabia's Prince Salman Foundation.

According to the statement by the Club on their official website yesterday, the deal will officially be signed in Madrid on Monday (Feb. 7).

"The Real Madrid Foundation and the Prince SalmanFoundation will join forces on Monday, February 7 in order tobuild a new socio-academic sports academy in Saudi Arabia," disclosed by the statement.
