Dennis Ross: Military Option Never Ruled Out to Stop Iran Getting Nukes

WASHINGTON, DC (Jan. 10) – Will U.S. President Barack Obama use military force to stop Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon if sanctions and diplomacy fail??

Dennis Ross: Military Option Never Ruled Out to Stop Iran Getting Nukes
As reported earlier, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is on official South American visit, apparently to boost the support for Iran in the wake of latest sanctions from U.S. and Europe.

On the other hand, senior UN nuclear inspectors are likely to visit Iran "quite soon" to discuss their growing concerns about possible military aspects to its nuclear programme, an International Atomic Energy Agency official said.

The situation shows that tension is on the rise over Iran's nuclear programme and Europe preparing for an embargo on Iranian oil. In response Tehran threatening to strike back by blocking Gulf oil shipping lanes vital to the global economy.

In the scenario summarized above the recent statement by Dennis Ross, Obama’s former special assistant on Iran, might worsen the situation. According to Bllomberg citing Dennis Ross; Obama has “made it very clear” that he regards a nuclear- armed Iran as so great a threat to international security that “the Iranians should never think that there’s a reluctance to use the force” to stop them.

Ross’s comments came a day after Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and General Martin Dempsey both made comments saying that the development of a nuclear weapon would cross a red line.
