VIDEO: Suspect of Korean descent arrested after Oikos University Shooting in Oakland, California

OAKLAND, CA (Mon, Apr 02) – At least 7 people were killed and three injured in a firing spree at Oikos University in east Oakland, California on Monday morning.

According to media reports; the random firing by a male suspect, after killing the front desk officer, created chaotic situation in the University. Police rushed to the scene but the shooter managed to escape before being caught after one hour of shooting from Safeway supermarket, about 3 miles from the Oikos University.

Police sources also confirmed the arrest of shooting suspect, who is believed to be an ex-nursing student at university. The founder of the university, Pastor Jong Kim, told media that he did not know if the shooter was expelled or dropped out from the university.

Police spokesperson Johnna Watson said the suspect, an Asian male in his 40s, was was detained from a shopping center in the neighboring city of Alameda.

The suspect has been identified later as a local ethnic Korean resident. Korea's Yonhap news agency, citing officials at the Korean consulate in San Francisco, identified the shooter as Ko Won-il.

Yonhap also said the alleged shooter is a U.S. citizen of Korean descent.
