Boryeong says its mud has special powers to refresh the skin and soothe the
soul. Hosted by the city of Boryeong, the event has been named Korea's best
national festival for the last three years and it now has been recognized as a
top national festival by the government.
It's also has received several international festival awards.
Foreign tourists, as well as from Korea, gather in Boryeong in South
Chungcheong Province for one reason and one reason only: to get muddy. Now into
its 15th year, the festival is expected to attract up to three million domestic
and international tourists, according to the festival organizers.
The mud festival sacrament is quite similar for all visitors. Step one:
arrive in clean clothes. Step two: get muddy, often while enjoying a delicious
beverage.
