At Least 12 Killed in Dera Allah Yar Bomb Blast on Independence Day |
QUETTA, Pakistan (August 14) — At least 12 people were killed in a bomb blast in Balochistan, southwestern province of Pakistan, whixh has been has experiencing insurgency since decades by nationalists who want a greater share of the region's natural resources.
According to details; explosive material was planted to the wall of a two-storeyed hotel in Dera Allah Yar city, some 250 km from provincial capital Quetta and detonated through a remote-controlled device.
The building was razed to ground following the blast. The bodies of the victims, as well as the injured, have been recovered from the debris.
Witnesses said there were around 30 people on the ground floor of the building when the blast took place. However, there was no one was on the first floor.
Jawed Iqbal Gharshin, the police chief in surrounding Jafferabad district, confirmed that the bomb blast in the town of Dera Allah Yar killed 12 while 23 other also injured in the blast. Reportedly, police have detained two people who had tea in the hotel's restaurant and left just before the bomb went off.
Some of the injured were in critical condition, hospital officials said.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the blast.
