SAN FRANCISCO - Four San Francisco subway stations closed down temporarily on Monday during a protest planned by the hacker group Anonymous in reaction of BART's shutdown of cell phone service Thursday night at some BART stations to prevent another planned protest.
Reportedly, the hackivists took down the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) System's website over the week following the system's cutting off of cell phone service in some stations to stop protest planned on Thursday (August 11) at the subway station that was being coordinated with mobile devices. The original protest centered on how BART has handled several shootings involving transit police officers.
On Monday approaching the 5 p.m. protest time at BART's Civic Center Station, police tactical units with riot gear patrolled the platform.
