Child Abuse (New Mexico) -- Small girl found in wooden cage unattended

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (Wed, Jan 30) — New Mexico police has recovered an 8-year-old mentally retarded and physically handicapped girl from a wooden cage, according to report published in Huffington Post.

Cindy Patriarchias and Edmond Gonzales Charged with neglectfully causing child abuse

According to details; 33-year-old Cindy Patriarchias locked the girl in a wooden cage while she left with her boyfriend Edmond Gonzales to watch a movie. She also took her three children with her leaving the girl unattended at home.

A police report said that Patriarchias' separated husband called police when he arrived at the school and learned that the 8-year-old girl was unattended at the mobile home.

After about an hour of waiting for Patriarchias and Gonzales police were able to enter the home and a shocking scene was waiting for them. A small girl – suffering from suffers from microcephaly, a condition that gives people an abnormally small head – was locked in a large homemade wooden cage in the corner of a bedroom.

The cage had two latches on the door, a baby crib's mattress inside and was about 2 1/2 feet wide and 4 feet tall, police said in a statement.

Patriarchias has been charged with neglectfully causing child abuse. Her boyfriend Gonzales, 37, was charged with neglectfully permitting child abuse. Court records indicated that they appeared in court Monday but didn't enter pleas.

National Labor Relations Board's appointments by President Obama are unconstitutional: Ruled by U.S. Court of Appeals

Washington, DC (Fri, Jan 25) – Three recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) made by President Obama in 2012 have been declared as “Violation of Constitution” by a federal appeals court in Washington.

National Labor Relations Board's appointments by President Obama are unconstitutional:  Ruled by U.S. Court of Appeals

According to details; President Obama sidestepped the Senate to fill open spots on NLRB by appointing Deputy Labor Secretary Sharon Block, union lawyer Richard Griffin and NLRB counsel Terence Flynn to fill vacancies on the Board on January 4 last year. Recess appointments have a shelf-life of two years.

FOX News reported that Obama administration’s lawyers disagree with the ruling commented that President had the authority because the Senate was in recess; while the three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit ruled otherwise because the Senate was officially in session — and not in recess — at the time.

The case is a test of the White House’s authority to bypass Congress’ power to block nominations and if the decision stands, it could invalidate hundreds of decisions made by NLRB since the appointments were made.

White House attorneys are expected to appeal the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court but the White House had no immediate comments over the ruling.

India needs serious legislation to protect women from rapists

NEW DELHI, India (Thu, Jan 17) – Reported by madn3wz
India needs serious legislation to protect women from rapists
The numbers of rape cases in India, highlighted by local and foreign media, have been increased intensively since the gang-rape of the 23-year-old medical student from Delhi in December last year.
One wonders how the number of rape cases can increase so abruptly. The fact clearly shows that such incidents were happening with the same frequency but were not spotlighted for any reason like undue influence of rapists or their families, low background of the victims etc.
According to a report published in forcechange.com; thousands of rapes and sexual assaults go unpunished and often unnoticed within India every year and only in Delhi there were 635 rape cases reported last year, yet only one ended in conviction.

Recently, a 17-year-old gang-rape victim from Indian Punjab finished her life after writing a suicide note on a page torn from a notebook that named her alleged attackers and accused them of destroying her life. The suicide of teenage victim once again highlighted the awful state of affairs of India's criminal justice system.

In a very recent case; a 7-year-old student was raped in a school toilet in Goa (yet again in India) by a 23-year-old. The headmistress of the school has been arrested by police for the negligence. The police have also announced a reward of Rs. 50,000 for any information that would lead to his arrest.
But a rational question arises; are these steps enough to stop this vicious rape-culture in India? Every normal person thinks “No, not at all.” The solution requires a proper legislation and introduction of more stiff laws against the crimes like rape and molestation.
According to Hindustan Times; the Maharashtra state government is likely to amend the law to make crimes such as rape and molestation non-bailable, instead of waiting for the Centre to amend it. It also proposes to double jail term for such crimes, from the current seven to 14 years.
Indian legislators, from states to centre, have the responsibility to formulate and implement an effective legislation to stop such heinous crimes and deal the culprits iron handed.

VIDEO: 42 Alien Planets Found -- Reality or Hoax..?

Forty two (42) alien planets have been discovered by a team of amateur astronomers, according to a new report out by Space.com, and the discovery also includes a Jupiter-size world that could potentially be habitable, by going through data collected by the NASA Kepler spacecraft.

According to details; 40 volunteers with the crowd-sourcing Planet Hunters project found the new planet candidates, including 15 planets which might probably have the signs of life and PH2 b, a huge planet compared to the size of Jupiter that the team confirmed to be in the habitable zone of its parent star.

The group of amateur researchers is now awaiting confirmation from professional astronomers, according to a Live Science report on Friday, January 11, 2013.

Chris Lintott, an English astrophysicist at the Department of Physics in Oxford University and works atZooniverse, explained that “These are planet candidates that slipped through the net, being missed by professional astronomers and rescued by volunteers in front of their web browsers. It’s remarkable to think that absolutely anyone can discover a planet.”

"America is the most corrupt nation.": Jackie Chan

HONG KONG (Sat, Jan 12) – Reported by madn3wz

"America is the most corrupt nation.": Jackie Chan
Famous martial art hero Jackie Chan becomes a controversial personality by showing his anti-American sentiments in his recent interview on a Hong Kong television show.

According to details; “Rush Hour,” star said in his interview that America is “the most corrupt country in the world” and that the Chinese people should be proud of their country.

Chan’s anti-Americanism may come as a shock to his American fans but the Washington Post describes that the Hong Kong star often found himself entangled into the political discussion in China. Chan usually saves his political comments for a small and controlled audience but he was not reluctant to show his anti-Americanism.

In the recent interview; Chan discussed China’s recent progress, eliminating dishonesty from its government; while calling America "the most corrupt [country] in the world." Chan then maintains, blaming US for the world's troubles.

Chan said (with some translation help from the Post):

“If you talk about corruption, the entire world, the United State, has no corruption? (The United States) is the most corrupt in the world. Where does this Great Breakdown [financial crisis] come from? It started exactly from the world, the United States. When I was interviewed in the U.S., people asked me, I said the same thing. I said now that China has become strong, everyone is making an issue of China. If our own countrymen don’t support our country, who will support our country? We know our country has many problems. We [can] talk about it when the door is closed. To outsiders, [we should say] “our country is the best.”

This interview is most likely not so startling to Chinese viewers. Chan has been thrilling disagreement for a few years now for criticizing Taiwan and Hong Kong as models of what can go wrong when you have “too much freedom.”
