Colorado theatre shooting (Inside Video and Photos): At least 14 killed, over 50 injured

AURORA, Colorado (Fri, Jul 20) – At least 14 dead reported dead and more than 50 injured in a wild shooting  spree at local theatre premier of the latest movie in Batman series in the U.S. city of Denver, the local police chief says Colorado theatre.

According to details; an armed man hiding his face with gas mask started firing wildly which killed 14 people and wounded 50 others at a showing of new Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises on Friday morning in a mall in the suburb of Aurora. The gunmen later on set off a smoke or tear gas bomb.

Dozens of policemen were at the scene, and the authorities evacuated the area while they checked if there was an explosive device in the area.

CNN reported quoting an eyewitness as saying he saw a "guy slowly making his way up the stairs and firing, picking random people".

Another eyewitness told CNN: “We heard anywhere from 10 to 20 shots and little explosions going on. Shortly after that we heard people screaming. Then they came on PA system and said everyone needed to get out.”

The suspected gunman was held by police near a car behind the theatre.

“A gas mask, rifle, handgun at least one additional weapon (were) found inside,” police said.

MOSCOW, Russia (Sun, Mar. 04) – A group of Ukrainian female protesters went topless Sunday at the polling station where frontrunner presidential candidate Vladimir Putin had just voted.

According to eyewitnesses, the Femen activists tried to steal the box in which Putin had just cast his ballot, Russia Today says.

According to details; three semi-naked activists covered with protest slogans disrupted voting just 20 minutes after the premier left the building.

The activists started chanting slogans against Putin at the polling station in the Russian Academy of Sciences, where he cast his ballot.

The Femen activists can be sentenced to 15 days in jail for disorderly conduct at the polling station, RIA Novosti informs. The police have initiated an administrative offense case against them.

Voter turnout for the Russian presidential election reached 56.3 percent at 6 p.m. Moscow time, according to the Central Election Commission's Deputy Head Leonid Ivlev.

The voter turnout was 47.6% by 3 p.m., RIA Novosti has reported.

Costa Concordia Cruise Ship Capsized off Tuscany Coast, Italy

According to updates; about 69 passengers are still missing following the 114,500-tonne Costa Concordia, carrying more than 4200 passengers, capsized after striking against underwater rocks near the island of Giglio off the coast of Tuscany as passengers sat down to dinner on Friday evening.

Almost 4,200 people, including crew members, were rescued but according to Italian officials about 69 had not yet been accounted for.

Coast guards and divers have spent the morning searching the submerged decks looking for further fatalities, the BBC said.

Italian news agency Ansa said 4,165 out of the 4,234 people on-board had been counted.

The colossal €450 million Costa Concordia cruise ship ran aground last night near the island of Giglio. 

The ship carried over 4,200 passengers and crew and was on a 7 day cruise of the Mediterranean.

Initially, the incident caused the Costa Concordia cruise ship to list to one side, now, it is looking as if the ship may well sink.  All those aboard have been evacuated to the nearby island of Giglio which has only one large hotel with 300 beds.

As the Hurricane Irene reaches New York today morning; it left behind destruction, devastation and panic in North Carolina.

Reportedly, five people were killed due to destructive winds accompanied Hurricane Irene,  stranded coastal families in waist-high water, and left more than 500,000 homes without power - a staining that will take quite a few days, if not weeks, to recover.

Fortunately, Hurricane Irene was downgraded to a Category 1 storm by the time it stuck off North Carolina. It was reported as Category 3 storm earlier that roared through the Bahamas with 115-mph winds. Still, Irene remained a force that roiled the ocean, sounds and coastal rivers.

Earlier reported here; a Hawk aircraft from the Royal Air Force's Red Arrows aerobatic display team has crashed while performing a routine in the southern UK.

The pilot of the crashed plane, Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging from Rutland, was killed when his Hawk T1 aircraft - Red 4 - crashed about 1km south east of Bournemouth Airport at 13:50 BST, the UK Ministry of Defence has already confirmed. 

The 33-year-old Jon Egging flew Red 4 part of the ‘front section’ of the display group known as ‘Enid’. Jon Egging was based at the RAF’s Cottesmore base, flying the Harrier GR9. He reportedly has served in Afghanistan, providing support and cover for ground forces. He was married to Emma and, like all Red Arrows pilots, was with the display team since three years.

The exact cause of the crash is still a mystery while it is established that the lionhearted Jon Egging couldn’t eject from the crashing aircraft in time because he wanted to try to keep the plane away from populated areas. He succeeded, but sadly was killed in the crash.

It was the first fatality for the Red Arrows since a 1971 crash in which four pilots died in a mid-air collision.

Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging, the former Southampton University student, who had supported troops in Afghanistan, was married to Emma and lived in Rutland. 

Jon Egging, grown up in Warwickshire, was motivated by his airline pilot father from his very early age and became a part of his local 2028 Southam Sqn Air Training Corps at 13. While at Southam School, in Warwickshire, he was awarded a Royal Air Force’s Flying Scholarship. 

Jon Egging’s first solo flight was in a Cessna 152 from Wellesbourne Mountford Aerodrome. He then took a gap year, working in the UK and travelling around Australia. 

Later, as a member of Southampton University’s Air Squadron received an RAF Bursary to support his Environmental Studies degree. He completed his Elementary Flying Training on a Bulldog and entered the RAF in 2000. 

He was picked for fast jet training, flying the Tucano and Hawk, before becoming a Qualified Flying Instructor.

Topless Protest in Ukraine Staged by Women's Group 'Femen' to Support Former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko

KIEV, Ukraine - Female activists from a Ukrainian women’s group, Femen, has staged a topless protest on Tuesday (August 16) to show their rage at the trial of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. 

The action by the Femen group, whose activists frequently stage topless public protests to exaggerate their causes, stunned hundreds cops of police force that were vigilant on a nearby rally by pro-Tymoshenko supporters. 

Reportedly, a couple of women from the group climbed on top of a prison van parked outside the court in Kiev, bared themselves to the waist, and criticized theUkraine’s police and politicians, saying they were the ones who belong in custody.

After a few minutes, police carried the women off the van and took them away.
