Pakistan to face confident Bangladesh today in the final of Asia Cup 2012

DHAKA, Bangladesh (Thu, Mar. 22) – Spirited Bangladesh will take on Pakistan today in the final showdown of Asia Cup Cricket Tournament 2012, here at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka.

Pakistan to face confident Bangladesh today in the final of Asia Cup 2012
Another interesting fact is that the same outfits played the opening match of the tournament on March 11 and after further 11 days they are again in front of each other for the final face-off.

Although the hosts have lost the league match but they fought bravely and forced Pakistan to run hard for the victory. Now Bangladesh have the required momentum in their favor after thrashing India and Sri Lanka consecutively to reach the final and this is really an alarming situation for Pakistan, running a bit low after crushing defeat in the hands of India.

The most of the cricket gurus think that Bangladesh wouldn’t have had the best chance to win any major cricket tournament other than today. Everything seems to be in their favor like home conditions, home crowd, winning momentum and relatively low-confident opposition.

After getting century of centuries, Sachin Tendulkar raises his bat as he walks off
The hosts of Asia Cup 2012 have certainly avoided the possible elimination from the tournament. Now all three teams except Pakistan, which have already qualified for final, have their chances to qualify for the final on March 22.

Bangladesh victory was certainly proved to be a big shock for India; but it revitalizes the hopes of Sri Lanka to enter into final by beating the hosts in their final league match, scheduled on March 20.

Right now, after upsetting defeat of India; there’s no big change on the points table as Pakistan still on top, followed by India and Bangladesh respectively. Both have four points, but India ahead in terms of NRR.

India gets winning start in Asia Cup 2012 beating Sri Lanka by 50 runs
India’s cricketing reputation was on stake after the debacle in the recent series in Australia and they fought well to restore their pride to some extent. The all-round performance by the men in blue helped the team to get confidence back a bit.

Sri Lanka won the toss and invited India to bat first, the decision which proved even worse than the one taken by Mushfiqur Rahim in the match against Pakistan on Sunday.

Though, India lost little master Sachin Tendulkar on very early stages of the innings but Gautam Gambhir and man-in-form Virat Kohli played memorable innings to help india pile up a massive score of 304 on the cost of just three wickets. Both, Kohli and Gambhir, completed their centuries with a difference of just one ball; but could last long after they overcome the pressure of nervous nineties.

Ferry Capsizes in Bangladesh: Scores fear dead as more than 160 missing
Unverified reports suggest that the ferryboat, dubbed as Shariatpur-1 went down the waters after hitting against a small oil tanker in the Meghna River, south-west of the capital Dhaka. Approximately 35 people were saved after the accident, police said.

Local police chief Shahidul Islam told the AFP, “About 35 passengers were rescued by another ship. But more than 150 passengers remain unaccounted for.”

Rescue and search teams couldn’t locate the sunken ship, while the operation is still underway. Every year score of people have been killed by such tragic accidents, which are very common in Bangladesh mainly because of poor safety standards followed by the ferry owners.

Last April, at least 23 people died after a ferry carrying more than 100 passengers capsized in the east of the country.

In June 2010, about a dozen people were killed after a packed ferry capsized in storms in north-east Bangladesh.

In November 2009, 118 people died in two ferry accidents within a week.
