India needs serious legislation to protect women from rapists

NEW DELHI, India (Thu, Jan 17) – Reported by madn3wz
India needs serious legislation to protect women from rapists
The numbers of rape cases in India, highlighted by local and foreign media, have been increased intensively since the gang-rape of the 23-year-old medical student from Delhi in December last year.
One wonders how the number of rape cases can increase so abruptly. The fact clearly shows that such incidents were happening with the same frequency but were not spotlighted for any reason like undue influence of rapists or their families, low background of the victims etc.
According to a report published in forcechange.com; thousands of rapes and sexual assaults go unpunished and often unnoticed within India every year and only in Delhi there were 635 rape cases reported last year, yet only one ended in conviction.

Recently, a 17-year-old gang-rape victim from Indian Punjab finished her life after writing a suicide note on a page torn from a notebook that named her alleged attackers and accused them of destroying her life. The suicide of teenage victim once again highlighted the awful state of affairs of India's criminal justice system.

In a very recent case; a 7-year-old student was raped in a school toilet in Goa (yet again in India) by a 23-year-old. The headmistress of the school has been arrested by police for the negligence. The police have also announced a reward of Rs. 50,000 for any information that would lead to his arrest.
But a rational question arises; are these steps enough to stop this vicious rape-culture in India? Every normal person thinks “No, not at all.” The solution requires a proper legislation and introduction of more stiff laws against the crimes like rape and molestation.
According to Hindustan Times; the Maharashtra state government is likely to amend the law to make crimes such as rape and molestation non-bailable, instead of waiting for the Centre to amend it. It also proposes to double jail term for such crimes, from the current seven to 14 years.
Indian legislators, from states to centre, have the responsibility to formulate and implement an effective legislation to stop such heinous crimes and deal the culprits iron handed.

Video: Bal Thackeray Funeral -- Uddhav Thackeray Lit the Pyre

MUMBAI, India (Sun, Nov. 18) – Reported by madn3wz

Bal Thackeray Funeral -- Uddhav Thackeray Lit the Pyre

Shiv Sena supremo  Bal Thackeray’s final rites have been offered at Shivaji Park, where he launched the Shiv Sena forty six years ago at a colossal gathering on Dussehra. More than 200,000 people, including several big names, have gathered at the extensive ground as Mr Thackeray was consigned to the flames.
Lakhs of Shiv Sainiks and supporters break down as son Uddhav Thackeray lit the pyre.
At 9:00 AM in the morning Thackeray's body was brought out of his house in suburban Bandra, wrapped in the tricolor, for funeral procession. His son, Uddhav, broke down just before the funeral procession started. A glass box carrying the 86-year-old Sena patriarch's body was then loaded onto a flower bedecked truck.
The Shiv Sena has taken permission to perform his last rites at the park at 6 pm; he will also be given full state honours. This is the first funeral to be held at Shivaji Park; the ground had special significance for Bal Thackeray, who launched his political party here in 1966. It was the venue for many of his rallies over the years, including his last public address on Dussehra this year, when he spoke to the crowd through a recorded video message.
The Shiv Sena chief died on Saturday afternoon, after a prolonged illness at the age of 86. Thackeray, who was critically ill since last Wednesday, was declared dead by Dr Jaleel Parkar who was treating him. The Sena chief had been suffering from respiratory problems and pancreatic disease.

Shahrukh Khan (SRK) goes ecstatic after KKR won the final showdown of IPL 2012

CHENNAI, India (Mon, May 28) – This is a very special fairytale for KKR, as they have struggled right from the inception of the league back in 2008. They had finished at the last on the points table on many occasions. They certainly rose from deep to touch the glory of IPL title. The fairytale journey of KKR in IPL 2012 really depicts the struggle from dusk to dawn to become the champions.

Shahrukh Khan (SRK) goes ecstatic after KKR won the final showdown of IPL 2012
KKR’s co-owner Shah Rukh Khan couldn't contain his happiness and danced his way to the ground. He hugged, cheered and congratulated each member of his team after his team beat the defending champions in the final of IPL 2012.

Gambhir-led spirited Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) emerges as the champions in the fifth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) after thrashing the two0time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 5 wicket on their home ground on Sunday night.

A once-in-a-lifetime innings of 89 off just 48 balls by Himachal Pradesh Ranji player Manvinder Bisla and an equally stirring 49-ball 69 by Jacques Kallis guided the Shah Rukh Khan co-owned franchise to the title with a five-wicket win in the final.

Chasing a daunting task of 191 KKR lost their skipper and inform batsman in very first over of their innings’ but no body knows that it will be all-Bisla show later on, who was gracefully supported by veteran Jacques Kallis to lead their team to first ever IPL title.

Manvinder Bisla took the charge after Gambhit fell to an in-cutter of Ben Hilfenhaus on the last ball of the first over. Bisla played an extraordinary innings to keep the required run rate under control at any point of time during their batting. He was very well supported by experienced Kallis.

Nuclear-capable ICBM Agni V test fire by India -- Security threat for Pakistan: Hameed Gul perspective

NEW DELHI, India (Thu, Apr 19) – India joins today the exclusive club of ICBM (Inter-continental Ballistic Missile) capable nations by successfully testing Agni-V ballistic missile, with a strike range of over 5,000 km, from Wheeler Island off the Odisha coast at 8.07 am on Thursday.

Nuclear-capable ICBM Agni V test fire by India -- Security threat for Pakistan
"The mission was successful. The missile hit the target in Indian Ocean in a perfect way," chief of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), VK Saraswat said.

The nuclear-capable Agni-V ballistic missile, which will bring the whole of China as well as other regions under its strike range, will become fully operational by 2014-2015 after "four to five repeatable tests" and user trials.

Now let’s come to the question which stings the mind of every Pakistani, like me, after hearing the missile test-fire news. What kind of national security threats for Pakistan can be aroused by India’s latest missile expedition?

I heard this news in the morning on Dawn News and soon I found the answer to my above-mentioned question on the same news channel when Ex-chief of ISI, General Hameed Gul, was taken on phone line to answer the same question.

According to General Hameed Gul, if somebody has to worry about India’s ICBM test-fire that could be China not Pakistan. Why? I wonder after the answer from ex ISI chief, and he replied, because India doesn’t need 5000-kilometer-ranged missile to target any point in Pakistan. The Agni-V can’t be manufactured without the technological assistance from United States, he said further, and U.S. has done it to keep China under pressure.

The answer of Mr Gul was logical enough to satisfy at least me; but I’m shocked with the silence and double standards from the whole world. Only few days back, many will remember, how harshly North Korea was criticized by the whole world for launching the rocket but no one has reacted over the India’s test fire of nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missile, Agni-V.

On the other hand; reacting cautiously to India's test of Agni-V missile, China today said the two countries are not rivals and enjoy "sound" relations though the sources in the Chinese establishment feel that the launch can give rise to another round of arms race in the region.
India has become the sixth member of ICBM club after U.S., Russia, China, France and UK as its members already.

Not India but Virat Kohli beat Pakistan in a high-scoring affair here at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur. The match proved to be a thriller as expected always for the contest between these arch-rivals.

This is India's highest chase in ODIs, beating their Natwest final heroics in 2002. The very special innings by Virat Kohli was the essence of India’s victory. Kohli smashed 183 off 147 balls, hitting 22 boundaries and a towering sixer. He was named man of the match for his memorable innings.

Asia Cup Cricket 2012: Bangladesh victory opens doors for Sri Lanka to qualify for final

DHAKA, Bangladesh (Sat, Mar. 18) – Bangladesh vs India (Asia Cup 2012): What a match it was! Will be remembered for very long time for the thrilling victory of Bangladesh and might even longer for the milestone achieved by the Little Master Saching Tendulkar.

After getting century of centuries, Sachin Tendulkar raises his bat as he walks off
The hosts of Asia Cup 2012 have certainly avoided the possible elimination from the tournament. Now all three teams except Pakistan, which have already qualified for final, have their chances to qualify for the final on March 22.

Bangladesh victory was certainly proved to be a big shock for India; but it revitalizes the hopes of Sri Lanka to enter into final by beating the hosts in their final league match, scheduled on March 20.

Right now, after upsetting defeat of India; there’s no big change on the points table as Pakistan still on top, followed by India and Bangladesh respectively. Both have four points, but India ahead in terms of NRR.

There are following possibilities in the remaining two league matches which can affect the second finalist to be decided…….

Cricket Updates: India gets winning start in Asia Cup 2012 beating Sri Lanka by 50 runs

DHAKA, Bangladesh (Wed, Mar. 14) – The second match of Asia Cup 2012 was played yesterday between India and Sri Lanka at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur. India comprehensively beat Sri Lanka by 50 runs and leading the points table with a better net run rate (NRR).

India gets winning start in Asia Cup 2012 beating Sri Lanka by 50 runs
India’s cricketing reputation was on stake after the debacle in the recent series in Australia and they fought well to restore their pride to some extent. The all-round performance by the men in blue helped the team to get confidence back a bit.

Sri Lanka won the toss and invited India to bat first, the decision which proved even worse than the one taken by Mushfiqur Rahim in the match against Pakistan on Sunday.

Though, India lost little master Sachin Tendulkar on very early stages of the innings but Gautam Gambhir and man-in-form Virat Kohli played memorable innings to help india pile up a massive score of 304 on the cost of just three wickets. Both, Kohli and Gambhir, completed their centuries with a difference of just one ball; but could last long after they overcome the pressure of nervous nineties.

In context to various Veena Malik-related headlines in recent past, including her controversial photo shoot for FHM India; Thackeray said, “"Veena Malik is a blot on our country's culture.” Her disappearance story, her disgraced scenes in Bigg Boss, her controversial cover shoot and even her every thing is just mean for cheap publicity, he wrote further.
