According to details; a veteran Hollywood stunt pilot lost control of his World War II-era fighter plane during National Championship Air Races and Air Show, tumbling toward thousands of spectators before barely missing a grandstand and slamming into box seats, creating a horrific scene strewn with smoking debris.

The pilot, 74-year-old Jimmy Leeward, and two other were killed at the spot while the rescue and emergency teams transported at lease 54 seriously injured people to the hospitals. The impact was so exhaustive that bloodied bodies spread in the area of impact at the ground.

An eyewitness told that the pilot was on his third lap of a race when he lost control.

Authorities were probing into the cause, but an official with the event said there were indications that mechanical problems were to blame.
