FOSHAN, China – The 58-year-old Chen Xianmei - the garbage collector or a "scrap peddler" (as mentioned by Adam Minter, author of the Shanghai Scrap blog) – who was the first to react to save the 2-year-old Wang Yue (Yueyue) knocked down twice by vehicles in city of Foshan (China), was reportedly rewarded 10,000 yuan ($1,588) by local officials.

A local company also announced their financial support of 50,000 yuan ($7,945) to the family of Wang Yue (Yueyue), also called Yueyue, and the rescuer, Chen Xianmei.
“Besides the reward, we would like to offer Chen a job with stable income so as to encourage this kind of activity,” an anonymous assistant manager at the company told media.
