Blasts in Hat Yai (Thailand): At leat 14 killed, over 350 wounded |
No one yet came forward to claim the responsibility but the series of blasts that set a deadly fire around is believed to be done by Muslim insurgents.
The first blast of the series was inside a parked van that rocked an area of restaurants and shops in a busy area of Yala city, a main commercial center of Thailand's troubled southern provinces, said district police chief Colonel Kritsada Kaewchandee.
The second bomb exploded after about 20 minutes when a large number of people gathered on the blast site that proved to be more deadly.
More than 5,000 people have been killed in Thailand's three southernmost provinces - Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala - since an Islamist insurgency flared in January 2004.
