Akira Yoshizawa (吉澤 章 Yoshizawa Akira; 14 March 1911 – 14 March 2005) was an ‘Origamist’, considered to be the grandmaster of origami. He is credited with raising origami from a craft to a living art. (Wikipedia)
Today, Google celebrates the 101st birthday of the late Akira Yoshizawa’s birth with a creatively designed homepage “Doodle” decorated with ready-to-flutter butterflies so associated with the artist.

The art of Origami, with its deep roots in Japanese history, was used to make conventional objects, like simple boats and birds, until Yoshizawa finally brought the modern touches to this great Japanese art.
Yoshizawa filled his paper artworks with inspiring grace and sculptural modernism. And much how an origami artist transforms a simple sheet of paper into three-dimensional magic, Yoshizawa — model by model, diagram by diagram, year after year — transformed a child’s pastime into the very art of “living” origami.
