Japan Disaster Updates: Death Toll Rising Sharply With The Passage of Time

TOKYO – Japanese police sources told on Sunday about more than 200 bodies were found on a new site in northeast of Japan which is one on the most-effected area by massive earthquake and tsunami thereafter. 



A National Police Agency spokesperson told that as per the initial report from the area they had found more than 200 bodies in the city of Higashimatsushima, adding that local police were starting to collect the bodies.

According to Sankei Shimbun and other newspapers; hundreds of other residents in the city's Nobiru district are still missing.

On Saturday police in the city of Sendai said at least 200 and up to 300 bodies had been found on the shoreline there.

Earlier on Sunday the National Police Agency confirmed in a statement that the death toll from Friday's twin disasters has reached 688, with 642 missing and 1,570 injured.
