Myanmar Quake Updates: Death Toll Reaches 75 as Rescue Teams Struggling to Reach Devastated Areas

YANGON, March 26, 2011 – A powerful 6.8-magnitude earthquake that tumbled homes in north-eastern Myanmar has killed at least 75 people, and there were rational fears that the death toll would rise as devastation scale in more remote areas still unknown.

Rescue teams on Saturday struggled to approach remote Myanmar towns that were most-effected in the recent earthquake. The few available images from the area showed roads torn apart by huge cracks, bridges destroyed and wooden homes converted into stacks of wood.

The towns of Tarlay, Tachileik and nearby villages in Myanmar's Shan state seem to have been most relentlessly affected by the quake, which crushed hundreds of houses and government buildings.
