Junrey Balawing: The Shortest Living Person on Planet |
MANILA, Philippines (June 12) - - Junrey Balawing was announced the world's shortest man Sunday as he celebrated his 18th birthday.
The eldest among his four siblings, while all other are quite normal, Junrey Balawing measures just 59.93 centimetres, or 23.5 inches. He was born in the rural town of Sindangan on southern Mindanao Island and belonged to a blacksmith family.
"Officially he is the world's shortest man," said Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief of the Guinness Book of World Records who measured Balawing in front of cheering relatives and villagers.
Junrey Balawing broke the record of Nepalese Khagendra Thapa Magar, who was measured in 2010 at just over 26 inches.
