TOKYO – Reportedly, the emergency staff working to restore the electrical supply to nuclear reactors are hopeful for an electrical reconnection in operation on Saturday that will surely help in a great deal to cooling functions at a quake- and tsunami-ravaged Japanese power plant, the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) said.
Kyodo News Agency reported citing TEPCO sources that although the power reconnection will be operative soon but it might take time to bring the cooling systems back on line because of checks that are required to be carried out on equipment at the plant in Fukushima.
TEPCO sources further told that by using the diesel generators the electricity was already restored on Friday to reactors No. 5 and No. 6; while emergency cabling process was under way to connect reactor No. 2 and temporary substation.
Ninety tons of water was used on Saturday on reactor No. 3 to cool down the reactors and spent fuel pools at the plant. Water cannons were used for a third day straightaway for the cooling process and probably be continued until the power connection would be restored.
