After Brigadier Ali Khan Four Pak Army Majors Detained for Militant Group Links: ISPR

Four Pak Army Majors Detained for Militant Group Links
Yesterday it was reported here that ISI and MI have detained an on-service brigadier for his alleged links with banned militant outfit ‘Hizbul Tahrir’ supposedly backed by CIA.

ISPR (Inter-Services Public Relation) today confirmed the detention of four more Pak army personnel for their alleged links with Brigadier Ali Khan and ‘Hizbul Tahrir’, which calls for creating a pan-Islamic caliphate system by ousting, what it says, is the pro-American government in the country.

Hizbul Tahrir is banned in Pakistan, like some other countries, by former President Pervez Musharraf but amazingly the organization enjoys a legal status and active in Western countries, such as the United States and Britain. It apparently advocates non-violence, but some fear its extremist ideology can provoke its followers to embrace militancy.

Director-General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Athar Abbas said, “Yes, four army majors are being questioned for their links with Hizbul Tahrir.” However, he would not say when the four were taken into custody and where were they posted.

According to sources inside military the four majors detained were not working at General Headquarters (GHQ) like Brigadier Ali Khan; but it is suspected that these four personnel may be involved in any bigger plot.

However, Major General Athar Abbas refused to comment on it saying more revelations at this stage might compromise the investigations. “It is premature to draw any such conclusion,” he added.

6.7-magnitude Earthquake Rattles Japan on Thursday (June 23) Morning (Video Report)

6.7-magnitude Earthquake Rattles Japan on Thursday (June 23) Morning
HONSHU, Japan (June 23) - An earthquake of 6.7 magnitude shook northeast Japan on Thursday morning, the same area where the shattering 9.0 quake hit earlier this year, which also triggered a deadly tsunami that resulted into one of the worst nuclear disaster in the history.

The earthquake hit at 6:50am offshore from Honshu island about 325 miles northeast of Tokyo. There were no abrupt reports of injuries or damage in recent earthquake, which was 19.9 miles deep.

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning for Iwate Prefecture immediately after the earthquake, but cancelled it just one hour later. The U.S. Pacific Tsunami warning centre said that it did not expect a Pacific-wide tsunami that would be destructive.

TEPCO (Tokyo Electric Power Company) fighting to control radiation leaks at its Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant due to damage in the March 11 disaster, said there was no impact from the earthquake on its efforts to bring the reactors under control.

PNS Zulfiqar Enters in Pakistan Territory: Captain Wasi Hassan and Other Hostages of MV Suez Vessel to Reach Pakistan Today

Hostages of MV Suez Vessel to Reach Pakistan Today
The 22-member crew of MV Suez vessel hijacked by Somali pirates back in 02 August last year is expected to reach Pakistan today (Thursday/June 23). The hapless and disastrous voyage of the crew is finally coming to an end as PNS Zulfiqar is scheduled to tie up at the Karachi Port today, bringing the four Pakistanis back to their homeland.

The 22 members of the crew, includes Captain Wasi Hasan, Ali Rehman, Syed Alam and Mohammad Muzammil from Pakistan as well as 11 Egyptians, six Indians and a Sri Lankan, will be hosted by Pakistan after being hostage by Somali Pirates for almost 10 months.

Nationals from Egypt, India and Sri Lanka will be handed over to their respective embassies for their ultimate return to their own homelands.

The ransom of $2.1 million was paid to pirates to get the hostages released last Monday (June 13). The vessel was however attacked again by pirates soon after their release; but it was successfully countered by the crew of the MV Suez vessel.

Pakistan Navy, therefore, had to come into action to assure the safe return of the 10-month-long hostages to their respective homelands. But the bad luck was continuously following the crew and the vessel as it got some technical problem before it reached its destination of the Salalah port in Oman.

Captain Wasi Hassan contacted the owner of the company and asked them to send tug-boat. The tug-boat was sent but it couldn’t last long and faulted itself to hang in between the sea with MV Suez vessel. Second tug-boat was not sent by the company; therefore, the Captain on behalf of crew had to request to Pakistan Naval Chief to allow them to leave the vessel and to board PNS Babar as it was feared that the vessel will be sunk. The crew was later shifted to PNS Zulfiqar which was specially sent to get the MV Suez Crew back to Pakistan.

MV Suez Sinking After Being Abandoned by Crew Members

The crew was allowed to shift to PNS Babar and MV Suez vessel was reported sunk afterwards. According to Khaleej Times the officials in Oman has confirmed that MV Suez has sunk after being released by Somlai pirates.

“I can confirm that the MV Suez sank in 4,900 metres of water, which means that it poses no threat to shipping or navigation in the area” a Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs officials told the state-owned Å’Oman Daily Observer’.

Brigadier Ali Khan Arrested for Alleged Links with Hizbul Tahrir
A brigadier from Pakistan Army has reportedly been arrested for alleged links with banned militant group ‘Hizbul Tahrir’. Inter Services Public Relation (ISPR) has confirmed the detention of brigadier without commenting any further citing the pending investigation.

According to details; the Brigadier Ali Khan, appointed at the Regulation Directorate in General Headquarters (GHQ) was arrested during a joint operation by Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI) earlier this year.

Brigadier Ali Khan was under surveillance of ISI and MI for almost six month before he was picked ultimately from outside his home on May 6. The surveillance started when few ‘suspicious’ individuals were spotted visiting brigadier’s home very frequently. Ultimately, the call records of Khan’s cell phone validated the suspicions of intelligence agencies.

Sources said Brigadier Ali Khan was linked to the section of militants that had direct ties with the Central Investigation Agency (CIA) and the military intelligence agencies arrested him to probe this connection.

Major General Athar Abbass, Director General ISPR, told that the detention of Brigadier Ali Khan was not made public due to sensitivity of the issue and mainly because of pending investigations against him.

Major General Athar Abbass further told that the Brigadier Ali Khan was linked to Hizbul Tahrir, a militant group barred in 2003 by former president Pervez Musharraf. He said the enquiry was at early stages and it was untimely to comment any further. He denied any network of senior military officers having links with militants.
