Facebook Mania: 1 Million Under Age Kids in UK Access Facebook Everyday

LONDON – A recent study conducted by Mintel, a London-based market research firm, concluded that about one million British under-teen children, aged between 7 and 12, use Facebook - a social networking platform with more than 800 million users worldwide - on a daily basis.

Under-age Kids Using Facebook
Ina Mitskavets, a researcher at Mitel, said, “Today's children are well versed in all aspects of the internet, with almost a million children aged seven to twelve using Facebook - highlighting just how popular the site has become.”

The study further suggests that 50 per cent the British children aged between 7 and 12 access social networking websites, out of which, 49 percent or around 970,000 access Facebook every single day. The study shows that more than half of the children accessed Facebook from their desktops while 10 per cent of children use mobile devices to use Facbook.

Although Facebook , restricts children under the age of 13 to join the social networking site but, according to another survey, parents of the children help their underage children to open accounts on Facebook.

The study also revealed that the rest of the 50% children accessing social networking platforms do it irregularly while only 5 percent of the children don't use it at all.

Pressure from their friends is a major reason which motivates children to create accounts on social networking platforms, the study concluded in the end.
