Happy Supermoon Night - Some Interesting Facts About 'Supermoon' Phenomenon

March 19 is not special just because of Pakistan and Australia cricket match in the ICC Cricket World Cup; but today’s night is very special for the sky gazers because of very special and very rare “Supermoon’ to glitter the skies.

According to NASA’s website; today the supermoon will be one of “rare size and beauty”.

Here are few facts and information about the phenomenon called “Supermoon”. First of all it can be defined as follows:

 “A supermoon is simply a full moon that happens to be at the closest point of the earth.”

Few other interesting facts related to ‘Supermoon’ phenomenon are:
  • Moon will be just 3,56,577 kms away from the Earth today
  • It occurs after 18 years.
  • It shows the biggest and brightest full moon of the year
  • It shows approximately 14% bigger moon as compared to normal full moons during the year
  • It shows approximately 30% brighter moon as compared to normal full moons during the year
·         There were supermoons in 1955, 1974, 1992 and 2005.
