United Nations urged member countries to freeze the assets of retaliated Libyan leader Col. Gaddafi and his close allies; after sanctions have been imposed by Security Council on Saturday which includes an arm impediment.
In the daylong discussions on the resolution 15 votes came in the favour of sanctions while no one went against it. The Security Council also supported a travel ban on Gaddafi’s family and close allies including his four sons and a daughter along with leaders of the revolutionary committees accused of much of the hostility against protesters.
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon praised council members for the united vote, saying it "sends a strong message that gross violations of basic human rights will not be tolerated."
"I hope the message is heard, and heeded, by the regime in Libya," Ban said.
Moreover, Council members settled to refer the Gaddafi regime's lethal onslaught on people protesting his rule to a permanent war crimes tribunal for an investigation of possible crimes against humanity.
