A Tragic Story for Tech-Crazy - - 17-year-old Chinese Student Sold His Kidney to Buy iPad 2

17-year-old Chinese Student Sold His Kidney to Buy iPad 2

According to reports from Shenzhen Satellite TV; a 17-year-old student in the eastern Anhui Province sold his kidney to buy an iPad. The student, surnamed Zheng, got 22,000 yuan (US$3,393) for selling one of his kidneys. 


The parents of the student didn’t know until he came back home with an iPad and iPhone after having surgery in Chenzhou No. 198 Hospital. Zheng was paid 22,0000 yuan after his right kidney was taken out after the surgery.
Zheng said, “I wanted to buy an iPad 2 but could not afford it. A broker contacted me on the Internet and said he could help me sell one kidney for 20,000 yuan.” Zheng is having serious heath problems after the kidney surgery.
When his parents contacted the police but the broker couldn’t be held and his cellphone was found powered off too. Furthermore, it was disclosed that Chenzhou No. 198 Hospital was not qualified to perform organ transplant surgery. Hospital officials claimed they had no knowledge about Zheng's surgery because the department that was involved had been contracted out to a Fujian Province businessman.
Police investigations are still underway in this case and police is trying to locate the whereabouts of the broker.
Previously, it was reported that many university students in Guangdong had decided to donate sperm in order to raise money to buy iPads and iPhones.
