JAKARTA – Reportedly, rain-caused floods in Indonesia’s western provinces of Aceh killed at least 24 while hundred were left on the streets. Rivers that split open their banks due to heavy rains wiped out 85 houses in Pidie district and damaged another 15. One of the villages still remains cut off by rising water.
Indonesian media reported that deforestation is one of the major causes behind such frequent floods. In October 2010 the province of West Papua had the same flood-like situation which claimed 300 precious lives with 9,000 evacuations from the effected areas.
