Referee's controversial decisions led to shocking defeat for Amir Khan against Lamont Petersen

WASHINGTON (Dec. 11) – Amir Khan shocked by the loss to Lamont Petersen due to a split decision on Saturday night at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in the presence of a wild, near-sellout crowd of 8,647.

Petersen won the bout to lift a pair of junior welterweight titles in a major upset courtesy to the controversial decision by referee Joe Cooper. Cooper deducted a point from Khan in the 7th round for pushing Petersen and then again in 12th round he removed another in the 12th round for a disputed punch on the break.
