Military Helicopter Crash in Multan Killed Five Including DG Rangers, Major General Muhammad Nawaz and His Son

MULTAN, Pakistan (June 1) - Five people were died as a military helicopter caught fire mid-air  and crashed into the Indus river in Multan Wednesday morning. Director General (DG) Rangers, Major General Muhammad Nawaz and his son, are among those killed in this incident along with two pilots and one Rangers’ staff.

The accident took place around 10.30 a.m. local time shortly after the helicopter took off for Peshawar from Dera Ghazi Khan city. Local police officer Mohammad Sajid said the helicopter caught fire in mid-air and plunged into the river near the town of Kot Sultan.

Police sources further told that the cause of the crash was unclear, but the helicopter went down in a dust storm when visibility was poor.

"The cause of the crash is being investigated. It appears to have been a technical fault, but the weather was also bad," military spokesperson Major Farooq Feroz told media.

  1. Its great tragedy and big loss. I spoke to gen Nawaz once few weeks ago on flood victims rehabilitation houses( apna ghar ) Punjab rangers project found him nice man. It was shocking news for me. God rest his soul and all others who killed in this crash and give sabar to families all others. Ameen
