Senior Al Qaeda Ally Ilyas Kashmiri Killed in US Drone Attack on June 3, 2011


PESHAWAR, Pakistan (June 04) – According to BBC reports; a senior al Qaeda leader, Ilyas Kashmiri, was killed in last night’s U.S. drone attack in Wana, South Waziristan. Ilyas Kashmiri was also a key suspect in the Mumbai attacks.

Reportedly, eight other militants were also killed in this drone strike in which U.S. drone hit three missiles on a house in Shawangai village, 7 kilometres north of Wana, the main town in South Waziristan.


A resident and a low level Taliban commander told Saturday on the condition of anonymity that Ilyas Kashmiri came in that compound two days ago and became victim of the U.S. drone attack. His funeral prayer was offered at 11:30 am on Saturday.

Pakistan’s intelligence officials are yet to confirm the reports of Ilyas Kashmiri death. 

Ilyas Kashmiri was the leader of the Harkatul Jihad al-Islami, a group associated with al-Qaeda, and its offshoot 313 Brigade, which is allegedly involved in Pakistan Naval Base Mehran attack on May 22/23.
