NEW YORK - Abduwali Abdukhadir Muse, Somali pirate pleaded guilty of kidnapping, hijacking and hostage-taking in May 2009, was sentenced a prison of 33 years and 9 months by a U.S. Court on Wednesday.
Abdukhadir was the only survived member of pirate group who hijacked Maersk Alabama container ship in the Indian Ocean in April 2009; which was set free after U.S. Navy’s rescue operation in the ocean. He was transferred United States later on in May 2009.
Abdukhadir was only 16 years of age at the time of the 2009 hijacking attempt. Defense attorney Fiona Doherty had requested for a 27-year sentence, referring his young age and his growing up in the "failed state" of Somalia.
