Raymond Davis Case: Is Pakistan Heading Towards Another Era of U.S. Sanctions?

ISLAMABAD - The complications associated with the case of Raymond Davis are getting bigger with the passage of time.  According to the reports; the PPP government is unable to release Mr. “Rayond Davis” even if it actually did want to. On the other side, the termination of Shah Mahmood Qureshi as Foreign Minister, as well as the publishing of documents confirming that Mr. “Raymond Davis” was on a Business Visa has worsened the issue beyond the expectations of diplomats in Washington.

The disaster as it has outspread in Lahore has really placed President Zardari’s government in the situation where neither they swallow nor they spit it out. The case is in the hands of people of Pakistan and the judiciary and the judiciary under the supreme head of Mr Iftikhar Chaudhry will not tolerate any favour demanded in the case of Raymond Davis. Mr Iftikhar Chaudhry generally doesn’t like anybody to intervene in country’s judicial process.

The continuous threatening attitude and statements from Washington are pointing towards the hampered relationship between Pakistan and America after been close allies in the war of terror after 911 for almost one decade.

The situation briefed above is clearly pointing towards an open secret ‘U.S. sanctions’. Is Pakistan really heading towards another era of Sanctions from America? Pakistan has good experience of such sanctions which imposed on Pakistan for more than one time. The latest one was in the reaction of nuclear tests by Nawaz Sharif government in 1998 and it lasted up to 911 attacks when the America once again needed Pakistan to fight its battle in Afghanistan.

What do you say, Is Pakistan really close to U.S. sanctions once again..??
