Ousted President Hosni Mubarak Still in Red Sea Resort Town of Sharm el-Sheikh: PM Ahmed Shafiq

CAIRO - Egypt’s ousted President Hosni Mubarak is in the news now for more than 20 days continuously for one reason or other. Even after stepping down he is getting the limelight which might be the last wish of any show biz star (just on the lighter side).

Many facets of Hosni Mubarak's life, like his health, wealth, his location and plans, were highly protected mysteries during his nearly 30 years rule as president of Egypt. After being forced to step down on last Friday, not much has changed.

Rumours and speculations about Mubarak’s whereabouts and future destinations are buzzing around since he was inclined to quit by the anti-regimes forces. He was speculated to be ready to flee towards Montenegro because of the big business of his son there. Then it was reported that he was set to reside in Germany due to his health concerns and continuous treatment in Germany. But after he has been ousted no body knows exactly that where he is!

According to the reports on Sunday by Egyptian daily ‘Al-Masry Al-Youm’; Mubarak has gone into a coma. The newspapaer didn’t mention his exact present location. JSS News, an Israeli French-language magazine, comes out with the claims that Hosni Mubarak is close to death due to his long-time cancer problems and being treated in Baden, Germany.

In site of these rumours, an Obama administration official told a reporter at the Washington Post Sunday they believed Mubarak was actually in the Red Sea resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh, where he has long had a private residence. Egypt's Prime Minister, Ahmed Shafiq, also supported this report.

'Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq announced Sunday that former president Hosni Mubarak is in Sharm el-Sheikh up to now,' Xinhua quoted official MENA news agency as saying.
