Twenty Four (24) Injured and 35 Arrested During Basant Celebrations in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD, Feb. 19 – As reported earlier here; people of Faisalabad celebrated the event of ‘Basant’ despite a ban from Government of Punjab. Basant is a Kite-flying festival which is being celebrated in Pakistan (mostly in Punjab) to welcome the spring season after winter.

Punjab Government banned this festival for few years because of the threats to the lives of common people and public property due the use of dangerous and illegal metal strings and chemical-coated strings.

Reportedly, yesterday during the Basant festivities 24 people were injured due to aerial firing and use of glass and chemical coated strings to fly kites.

Police also arrested almost 35 people in the various areas of Faisalabad on breaking of ban imposed by the government. Police also held in custody the illegal material in their use like chemical-coated string and kites.

The police action was taken after the strict instructions from Punjab Law Minister, Rana Sana Ullah.
