At Least 84 Killed in Three Days' Protests in Libya: News Release by Human Rights Watch

Al-Baida, Libya - According to news release by Human Rights Watch on Friday (Feb. 18) night; the ongoing protests in Libya have claimed 84 lives already during last three days.  

Although government’s grip on the capital city of Tripoli seems to be strong as ever, but it appears to be in difficult position to maintain its control over the nation at large, and the major Eastern cities in general, a number of which have been taken over by protesters.

 According to HRW; even though people were protesting peacefully, the security forces killed 20 people in Benghazi, 23 in Al-Baida, three in Ajdabiya, and three in Derna in a matter of days. Just during Friday protests 35 people were killed in Benghazi nearly all with live ammunition. Reportedly, three policemen were also hanged to death by the protesters in the reaction of use of ammunition against them which claimed lot of lives. 

Libya started shutting down social networking sites like Facebooks and Twitter and Nnews website of Al Jazeera in the beginning og the protests but now according to reports on Friday late night "Libya is off the Internet."
