JAKARTA — After a flurry of sectarian aggression which left three dead; on Thursday the court proceedings of Abu Bakar Bashir, the alleged fundamental Muslim preacher, started in tight security and high religious pressure in Indonesia.
The supporters of 72-year-old Abu Bakar Bashir gathered around the court while the heavily armed police was trying to avoid another mass aggression that has shocked Indonesia early this week.
The worst religious violence started on Sunday claimed thee lives from minority Islamic sect. Indonesia was still under the shock waves of first violence case when just after two days another anti-Christian broke out in the streets of Temanggung, also on the main island of Java.
The defence team of Abu Bakar Bashir complained that minimum three days notice was not served to them for appearing in the court. In the reaction, the case was adjourned in very early stage.
Abu Bakar Bashir, in his religious appearance, didn’t say any word to his supporters while entering the court to face third of his terrorism trial since the 2002 Bali bombings, for which he was jailed and released on appeal.
The trial was quickly adjourned until Monday after the bespectacled cleric's defence team complained that he had not been given the minimum three-days notice to appear in court.
Abu Bakar Bashir, if found guilty, could also get anything including long-term jail or death penalty.
