Alleged Hijacked Tien Hau, Chinese-flagged Commercial Ship, is Safe

BEIJING, China  - It was reported earlier that Hong Kong-registered Tien Hau, Chinese-flagged commercial ship, is hijacked by Somali pirates off the coast of Yemen; but  now on Sunday China said that the report was false and the ship was safe.

Piracy off Somalia has grown since the African nation's government collapsed in 1991.

China Marine Rescue Centre later reported the news was wrong and the ship was just chased by a suspicious-looking vessel and not hijacked.

The centre said the Tien Hau with 22 people aboard was now under the escort of the escort of China's navy, which is part of a multinational anti-piracy effort patrolling one of the world's busiest shipping lanes.
