Tsunami Waves to Hit Batanes Islands (Philippines) by 5 p.m. (09:00 GMT) Evacuation Starts from Coastline

MANILA, Philippines – Tsunami warning triggered by 8.9-magnitude earthquake in Japan has set a state of emergency in the whole coastline in the area. 

Renato Solidum, Director of Philippine Volcanology and Seismology Institute, informed the first tsunami waves are expected to hit the northernmost Batanes islands by 5 p.m. (09:00 GMT) Friday. The initial waves are expected to be as high as 3-foot (1-meter), he further told. 

Disaster management officials of Philippine have issued instructions of an evacuation of coastal communities along the country's eastern seashore. Officials in Albay province southeast of Manila informed they had ordered residents to move to designated evacuation sites that are at least 15 feet (5 meters) above sea level.
