TRIPOLI – Five culprits have been reportedly detained, including the son of high-ranking Libyan police officer; after a Libyan woman yesterday, Iman al-Obeidi, claimed that she was rapped by pro-Gaddafi forces (reported here).
Libya's deputy foreign minister Khalid Kaim, talking to media, told the men were being arrested on account of a criminal investigation into the rape charges made by Iman al-Obeidi.
The alleged sexual assault took place when Iman al-Obeidi went to a pre-arranged meeting with at least one of the culprits, Khalid Kaim added further, denying the claim by Iman al-Obeidi that she was picked-up at a checkpoint because her identification showed she was from the rebel-stronghold of Benghazi.
However in context to the incident took place inside the Rixos Hotel in Tripoli; Khalid Kaim accepted that the situation was mishandled by the security staff and that no weapons should have been drawn.
