NEW YORK - Geraldine Ferraro, the first woman candidate for vice presidency in the political history of United States, has died at the age of 75 on Saturday at Massachusetts General Hospital after 12-year battle with leukemia.
In 1984; Democratic Sen. Walter Mondale selected New York congresswoman Geraldine Ferraro as his running mate; but they were defeated by the Republican ticket of Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.
She lost the elections in 1992 and 1998 for the U.S. Senate in New York.
Ferraro worked for both Bill and Hillary Clinton. She served as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights during 1993 and 1996 for President Clinton and worked on the presidential campaign for Mrs. Clinton in 2008.
