TOKYO - A baby dolphin was spotted in a flooded rice field which was ultimately rescued by a pet-shop owner.
Reportedly, 1.2-meter dolphin was swept in the rice field by huge tsunami waves on March 11. It was saved when a passer-by fortunately spotted it and told Mr Ryo Taira to do something to save the animal.
The 32-year-old Ryo Taira has been rescuing dumped animals since the 9.0 magnitude quake and tsunami left 23,000 people dead or missing.
Mr Ryo Taira and some of his friends reached the site on Tuesday and found the dolphin struggling in low-level seawater and it looked quite weak. They wrapped the dolphin in wet towels and drove it back to the sea, where they released it into the water.
"It was pretty weak by then, which was probably the only reason we could catch it," Taira said.
The dolphin appeared to perk up when it was back in the Pacific, he further added.
