French Warplanes Targeted an Airbase Deep Inside Libya to Cut Arms Supply

BENGHAZI – A military official said on Thursday that French warplanes struck an airbase deep inside Libya territory aiming to cut the arm supply line to the frontline military troops thus stopping the flow of the Gaddafi forces in Libya.

Thierry Burkhard, French military spokesperson, told reporters in Paris on Thursday; the French warplanes attacked during the night targeting an airbase about 250 kilometres south of the Libyan coastline. He didn’t hint clearly about the specific target. Military officials would keep any analysis of damage confidential, he further added.

In Tripoli, Libyan deputy foreign minister Khaled Kaim said that the “military compound at Juffra” was among the targets hit before dawn. Libya has at least two airbases deep in the interior.
