LONDON – "Down, down Cameron; down, down Sarkozy; down, down Obama", these were the slogans the protesters were chanting in a demonstration staged opposite the entrance to Downing Street near British Prime Minister David Cameron's residence on Monday against military action in Libya.
The group also flaunted placards which read "Stop bombing our families and children" and "We asked for UN observers not cruise missiles."
One of the protesters Khalifa Elnaddab, a 31-year-old Libyan PhD student studying in Cardiff, Wales; said that they were protesting because Mr Cameron and the British government were leading a war against their country and their people and killing civilians in Libya.
Britain, the United States and France launched air and missile strikes on Libya at the weekend aimed at enforcing a UN-mandated no-fly zone and stopping Kadhafi from crushing an uprising.
